1157 LED replacements for tailight

I got a set of these. GP-Thunder Pair 1157 2057 48 LED Light Bulbs White ++++:eBay Motors (item 400070881960 end time Oct-01-09 15:40:08 PDT)

They come in a 2 pack. They are way better than the first LED 1157 replacements I tried. I did order the white and the color is fine.
I know there was some controversy over whether these should be the red or white and I do understand why either of those theories could be correct. The red tail light Yamaha lens may be different from other OEM or aftermarket lenses because mine works fine with bright white LED's and the color output looks normal. Other OEM or after market lenses may need the red LED's because the bright white LED will show up a different color than you want. This is probably dependent on the lens.

The OEM lamp has a hot spot and gives the illusion of being a little brighter but the lumen output of the LED's seem greater and more dispersed.
The lamp comes in a 2 pk so today I'm going to try the other lamp in one of my stock front signal stalks and if it works well I'll order another pack.

Thank you all for your input and info on this. I think because of weight saving in the bike industry the charging systems on our bikes are a little on the weak side and I like saving wattage where ever possible and a good LED substitute is a good solution.

I had to purchase two very small and long self-tapping screws to mount the round LED base (1 piece) to my stock set-up (one has to drill two small holes). I also had to buy another two very small but short self-tapping screws to mount the LED board to the LED base. Once it's mounted, it's problem free and a nice, bright LED board set-up.

I got the clear alternative non integrated led board in the stock lens and it's much brighter than the stocker, but I didn't feel comfortable with drilling holes in the housing so I glued the board to the housing with epoxy.

That really sucks.. I bought a set of 7443 leds a few months ago for my car and they were way to big to fit in the hole.. making them useless to me.. You think they would take that into consideration when making them.. OH well

I wonder if your '06 has a different diameter hole than the '08. The bulb I have pictured was also 25mm in diameter like this one that you're talking about and would not fit. I am guessing the hole is about 20mm which many of the Hong Kong LED manufacturers are advertising their products to be. Maybe they have a misprint on the diameter dimension there.

I just measured the spare I have and it's 25mm and under every where else I measure the diameter. I'm using a dial caliper to measure the assembly. That;s close to 1" Is the one that won't fit larger than an inch?

I just recently replaced my tail light with a sealed LED unit i bought on ebay. I had to wire in resistors (came with the kit) to make the integrated turn indicators work right. I also got led bolts to wire in to bolt on the plate, they blink with the light. I do not know if it will pass inspection or not.... any thoughts. I will try to get some pic's up.

I think the integrated tail light is cool but still like the idea of a little stalk on the left and right to give a little more definition to your turn signal and intention to car drivers. When I look at a bike I probably see as most of us riders see it and when I see an integral left/right signal on a bike it instantly registers. It may not work the same with people who aren't familiar or interested in bikes. They may not naturally register a left or right turn signal as they would a car because it is less visually discriminative to the way their brain see's a turn signal on a car. Let's face it a lot of drivers are not paying full attention anyway and are on remote control. They drive from instinct and when you narrow their range of instinct you narrow your intent to them. Bad enough you signal someone today and they think your going to get ahead in life and they accelerate to close the gap so it's always upon us to make sure the lane or turn is clear. Most drivers I see using signals today use them as soon as they're in the lane change. They never signal intent they signal while they change lanes or turn.
I would be more concerned about visibility than the legality of an integrated tail lamp. Add some small LED stalks.

Mine was 25mm, too, and it would not fit through the hole. I could file out the hole, but will find a smaller LED instead. No biggy.
 
Just ordered a tower SMD led 1157 replacement from eBay. Will post some before and after pics when I get it.

I'm still debating. If I change the way I set up the lights on my bags, I won't need to change the OEM bulb to LED. My concerns with the spider are how well it will handle vibrations and is there enough room in the housing for it to fully expand. The price was enough to get me to put it on the back burner, so to speak.

I ride a rough road to work. Vibrated my rear signals to an inoperable status. I really like the nice Alum. housing they have tho.
 
Man, that spider light is sweet but I'm cheap and I think of how I could get 15 2-packs of 1157's for that price.. Once I get to 5 packs maybe I'll look at it again.

I hear you on that! Altho, I'd have been a lot better off in some cases to just spend the $ for the good stuff. For example, my signals that vibrated to death. Or the cheapo 1157 LED bulb that vibrated into two pieces on my Bandit 400, etc :)

Remember that the 1157 automobile replacement lamp is not the same as the 1157 OEM lamp that your bike came with. There is a little bridge on one of the filaments and from what other posters on this thread have said the OEM is brighter than a standard 1157 lamp.
