1-2 gear jerk when rolling on the throttle

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and a new owner of a 2007 Fz6 with about 11,000 miles on it..I've been riding the bike for about a week. I'm not a newb to riding motorcycles, but I'm not that seasoned either.

The problem: Im in first gear->roll off the throttle->pull in the clutch-> shift to 2nd->relase the clutch-> and when I roll on the throttle, it jerks, not a smooth throttle response.

I have checked the chain-> it has about 1 3/4 in. of slack--this is measured with the bike on the side stand.

I have also experimented with shifting at different rpms, at 2,000 and at 5,000. When I shift at 5,000, the throttle response is a little smoother, but still has a jerk.

My last motorcycle did not have this problem, but it didn't have a high compression motor either. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

Try this:

1. Preload the shifter
2. *Slightly* roll off the throttle
3. Simultaneously pull the clutch and upshift
4. Release the clutch and roll back on the throttle

This is the trick to a smooth shift...

Preloading the shifter makes a HUGE difference...

Remove step 3 and the first half of step 4 and you've got clutch less up shifting:BLAA: I wouldn't recommend it from 1 to 2 though.

Your suggestion only applies when you're on the throttle firmly - otherwise, I agree entirely.

I use clutchless upshifts on the highway when I'm hitting the throttle hard, and I never use them through the neutral gate (1 to 2 upshift).
