bump,
Doing some winter cleanup, finally installing all the new parts I had listed. Turns out the rear sprocket is a 47T instead of a 48T, so not as dramatic a change. (Front is 16T same as stock)
Polished up the headers today, did a thorough degrease around the countershaft sprocket...
Well-maintained deep blue Yamaha FZ6. Approx 42,000km, no signs of age! Very comfortable and forgiving sportbike for those just getting into riding, or someone who wants a sport touring machine without the insurance of a 1300CC FJR or Concours.
All done or purchased within last 1000km (June)...
Backside of a spark plug socket with a brass airline coupler and a wrench worked for me after hunting all over town for a 19mm or 3/4" hex bit, and then trying the bolt and nut method (works for install, but not removal). The good tool shop is 40km away from my house. :(
I commute on my FZ6 daily, my only complaint is my 15KM country road trip is too short, and all straight lines!
The chassis is very nimble in traffic, but I have to comment that I find sometimes the out-of-corner acceleration can be missing if you don't drop gears. I've noticed that you...
I'm 6'3 and between 270 and 290 depending on the season. I'm a bit of a gorilla on the bike. I find the bike very comfortable despite my large frame, my biggest gripe is the sore knees after riding 600 miles a day last summer on my first week of ownership. If I could move the pegs down and...
Just ordered a pair of H4's. If this doesn't work out I can use them on my MK2 GTI. :) You guys are all doing this on 2006's so far... is there much of a difference on the 04?
Lent my bike to my friend for a quick ride, came back with scrapes and a dent in the tank.. Thank god for frame sliders or it would have been much worse. :(
I'll be treating my 6 to some PR2's after the snow melts next spring. My current PR1 is starting to square off a bit with all my commuting and fat ass. Time to park the bike and hit the gym again!
Here's a question along similar lines... does downshifting to first without releasing the clutch cause any internal problems? I've come to stops without downshifting... (diesel car habit) I find myself more often having to do the dreaded stationary downshift which usually involves rolling the...
:( I've driven down my share of gravel hills.. even though the FZ6 is a capable bike... would you really want to take it somewhere that necessitates the use of TKC's? And.... TKC's usually are B rated tires... 35mph... on a bike that will do 150mph?
Yeah, I was riding with an F800GS on a long roadtrip, and he decided to take us up this gravel road to a clearing to camp for the night. I didn't realize what the road was like going up as it was about midnight and I just followed blindly. The road wasn't that bad otherwise, I just bottomed...
Not that it stopped me from riding some gravel anyway....
Listen for the muffled swearing from inside my helmet...
YouTube - My sport bike is not a dirt bike.
Was down there a few weeks ago, there are culverts recently paved over that can be annoying as they are slightly raised, but they were marked well.
Be sure to take Route 12 as well while you're down there... tops off an amazing ride.
Some video of both are in this.

Network Administrator for an online school.... no kids, just computers and websites..
We went to vmware servers last year from a mix of about 12 different machines constantly requiring babysitting... thank god I work for a Union or I would have worked myself out of a job... these days I...
I'm a newbie and I bought an FZ6 as my first bike... here's my justification:
I took a riding course this spring, and I rode for a week on an aging Nighthawk 450. After completing the course, my instructor recommended I look for an SV650. I went around to a couple dealers, sat on an...
Sunday - Leavenworth, WA to Chilliwack, BC (Home via Route 2 -> I5 -> Sumas)
Steven's pass can be quite cold when you were just used to riding in a 41c desert... Roads were pretty good, should have taken Chuckanut home but I was so tired / anxious to get home I just stuck to the I5...
Saturday Lolo Hot Springs, MT -> Leavenworth, WA. (Via Route 12, Lewis and Clarke Trail) ~16 or 17 hrs
Route 12 is an amazing riding road, I happened upon it by chance when I was planning our route, and after a bit of searching quickly ensured we rode across it. Over an hour of full bank...
Friday Waterton Lakes -> Lolo Hot Springs, MT. (Via Going-to-the-sun road)
Wow. Crossing the continental divide, at ~4700m, couldn't beat that. And some nice twisties as well. It was a little cold at high elevation, but the view was spectacular.
Somewhere in Glacier National Park...
