Whats the make/part number for the OEM filter? I can find a bikemaster filter around here that says itll fit the bike, those any good? EDIT: btw i dont live in a very dusty area, BUT the parking lot at my work is all dirt with 18 wheelers driving through it all the time. My car is covered in a...

    K&N air filter

Is there a K&N air filter that will fit our bikes without modification? Specifically a 2005. I can't find one. Anyone have the model #?

    How do you fill up

Why would you pull your bike up so the pump is on your right? You get off the bike on the left, so you pull up so the pump is on your left. I don't think ive ever seen a bike pull up with the pump on the right side before. Unless youre just going to stay on the bike i guess

    Chain Slack

Thanks for the replies guys! Will definitely be replacing the sprockets and chain soon. Btw I'd love to hear from anyone else that went down teeth on the front sprocket and up at the back. I'm considering it

That sounds right. Thanks alot! Mods you can close this thread now if you want, unless anyone has anything else to add.

    Sprocket and chain size

Anyone know the oem spec size for the front and rear sprocket, and for the length of the chain on the 2005? Its not in the manual and my googling has given me mixed results. I know this info should be online somewhere but I cant find it. If it is just a link would be cool. Problem is there are...

    Chain Slack

Damn I was hoping you wouldnt say that. I just ordered a set of new tires, wish I had read this before I placed the order so I couldve added sprockets and a chain to that. I think when I bring the bike to the shop to get the new tires put on I'll have them put new sprockets and a chain...

    Chain Slack

Good to know. I'm glad you said your chain developed tight and loose sections when it was on its way out, because my chain was pretty consistently at 2-2.1" all around. This was on the centerstand. My sprocket does seem a little worn though, I'm glad you mentioned it. Definitely looks a little...

    Chain Slack

For those of you that check the slack in your chain, do you notice that these bikes have alot of slack? My reason for asking is when I was getting the bike safetied the mechanic who is a friend pointed out the chain seems really loose, but that he didnt know for sure because he doesnt know the...

    First aid tips for bikers

The only thing I bring for first aid, and this is true, not a joke. I bring a couple Percocets I have left over from a car accident on every ride. Because I dont think I can fix a broken leg with any first aid kit, but at least I don't have to wait for the ambulance screaming in pain.

    Your Oil Change Intervals

Anything but yamalube haha. I questioned them a bit further and found out when they stopped making the 10w30 yamalube, ALL yamaha bikes that previously recommended 10w30 were changed to 10w40 within a year. I asked if there was any new information that they discovered that maybe caused them...

    Your Oil Change Intervals

Ok, I finally got an answer from yamaha as to why they started recommending 10w40 oil instead of 10w30. Their official response, and I don't think they thought this answer through before sending it out, but their official answer is they started recommending 10w40 over 10w30 because yamaha...

    Buying my first motorcycle help

Something else to add, its not really a factor in whether you buy the bike or not, just a safety issue. Since you or your friend is going to be riding the bike for an hour back, check the tire pressure before setting off. Often in the few months before an owner sells a bike they stop riding and...

    Comfortable Motorway/Highway cruising speeds

I think you have to add a poll when youre starting the thread. A mod could probably do it though. If any are reading this add a poll, I'm kinda curious.

    Comfortable Motorway/Highway cruising speeds

I second replacing the windscreen. The stock one is way too small for touring. If its an open country road and theres no cops in sight I cruise at around 180kmh. I have the puig windscreen. I don't notice a huge difference in vibration or comfort between 120 and 180. Now, over 200 is a...

    Frame sliders?

Mine came with frame sliders put on by the first owner. 2 piece ones. Theyre not as far out from the bike as most of the other pics ive seen on this thread. Theyve got some scratches on them but nothing big enough to indicate it was dropped.

Speed wobble, should I be worried

Haha yes I think you guys all came to that conclusion. We kinda side tracked a bit. Im glad we did though otherwise I never would have known the tires were old. The thread kind of went from-"what should i look at/replace to correct the original issue" to "what should I look at/replace just...
