Thanks for the offer, but I need a 12v to 5V (2A min) converter that terminates at a standard usb female port, preferably with 2 or more ports.
Anyone know the highest quality charger setups out there? Say something the hardcore touring guys use.
Thanks
Tablet as GPS using Google Maps, 4 years and still going strong. I've updated tablets using a Samsung Galaxy 8 and the proprietary RAM mount for it. Still using the same ball and extension from original setup. I'm still of the opinion this is the way to go over a dedicated GPS, even though...
Almost 3 years since I did this shifter mod not one single issue, haven't even touched it since the initial install, even slamming through the gears and all.
Been quite a while since I checked in. Just to let everyone know I've had zero issues with this mod. 2 track days and 10k miles of nothing but pure twisties slamming through the gears. Have not even touched it since initial install, still rock solid.
Wanted to thank OP for making these...
Hi all...the system is still working perfectly...I still stand by my opinion that this is the best gps setup one can have on your bike...plus all the other benefits that go along with it...I use google voice to route my text messages to my tablet so I can see right away when my Wife texts me...
Dude!
You are right there when you're on the blue ridge parkway...you have to make a couple 501 runs...it's literally the best twisties in the state of Virginia....

Piece of advice. If you are going to come all the way down to Va...skip WVa and hit these two spots....

Go back and look at my pictorial very carefully.

All you need to do this linkage flip mod is the pivot joint and nut you have pictured.
This mod is so simple that's the beauty...
hey give credit where credit is due...this was my idea...;)

my above pictorial was pretty straight forward or so i thought...
If you notice the stud is threaded and it just so happens its the exact same diameter as the hole that is left when you drill and knock out the old ball joint.
Just slip it through the existing hole, thread on the nut with some locktite and you're good to go.
I couldn't believe how well this...
My method of installation.
Drilled out the existing ball joint and replace with another in the opposite direction.

This method required no shimming and alignment was perfect.
The maximum individual map you can download is 87MB which I estimate to be approx 90 miles X 90 miles ...however you can download an unlimited amount of these or til run out of storage space...once the offline map is on the tablet then Google maps has access to them when you loose cell...
absolutely no problem seeing screen in bright sunlight this past Sun...vibs?...these tablets are no doubt torture tested to be vib/dropped many times over their lifetime...cost?...the cheapest Garmin you can buy that is capable of downloading routes to is over $250....this top of the line Nexus...
you seem confused about what a modern tablet is capable of...there's no cap other than the total physical space available on the tablet..."bigger routes, say 100mi" :eyebrow:....my average day route is over 300mi...i currently have western NC, western VA, northern GA, northern SC and eastern TN...
Went for a short ride today no vibrations...going for a longer one tomorrow...
This combination of mount, tablet and GPS application has exceeded ALL expectations...this is the future boys!
