    rear brake caliper

I use my FZ6 for moto gymkhana but the rear brake is causing me a real headache. It gets used a lot and gets very hot so I have fitted dot5 fluid, braided hose, EBC HH pads and a heat sink to the top of the caliper to soak some of the heat away. After only a couple of minutes the brake starts...

    garmin basecamp woes

Is it only me that finds Garmin BaseCamp difficult to use. The actual route planning is simple enough, it's the file structure and where it's saved, how it's saved etc that totally confuses me. WTF is an adventure, or a list, or a trip, or a route. Why have they made it so difficult. When I...

    New ideas about bike safety

Don't you think this same message should also go to car drivers, when you argue that all accidents can be predicted, that prediction isn't always possible by the biker, the prediction failure can be on the part of the car/van/bus/truck driver and the biker is totally taken by surprise because...

    New ideas about bike safety

So Spin Doctor, now I know who you are, just under a different name. Good luck with this project. I was chatting to a Police Motorcycle Instructor the other day about this. I've been out with the coppers a couple of times and what one of them said to me after watching me ride is something that...

    New ideas about bike safety

I came across this on FB the other day and it makes a lot of sense so I'm posting on to see if perhaps others might share it, pass it round and see if it gathers momentum. They've looked scientifically at how our brains work, register, process etc and one of the simple things they are trying to...

Anyone here use their FZ6 for Moto Gymkhana?

Well our UK season has finished (my first season) and the FZ6 performed pretty well. I won a few novice medals and more to the point I have been promoted to the next rank (green bib) after getting four ranking points. That makes 7 green bibs in the UK, I'm the oldest one by a long way and the...

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

Dave, that's quicker than many, nice riding.

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

vegasrider, the changes we make to the bikes aren't just for GP8s, they're for all gymkhana exercises. The lower gearing makes a big difference on peaky engines as the motor is further up the rev range coming out of turns so it pulls harder. The higher tickover on mine can be put back to normal...

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

Don't know if this will work but this might be a photo of my rear brake cooler. It's a heat sink from a PC. I didn't waht to drill more than one small hole in the caliper so I machined the underside so it fits into the recess on the top inner side of the caliper. Because this locates the fin...

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

The speeds might not be high but you still go as fast as you possibly can. As for people liking 'racing', in Moto Gymkhana the fastest time wins, ergo it's a race, or if you prefer, a Time Trial (which is what the TT is) and nobody says that isn't a race.

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

USA is just starting up with MotoGymkhana, not sure where though. With US being so big you might be nowhere near, in which case get in touch with motogymkhana.org.uk and see about setting up your own group. It really is great fun, you can practice without going to a track, it's cheap and it's as...

    rear brake upgrade

Double caliper, now there's an idea. MotoGymkhana is very heavy on the rear brake because when you're doing those tight turns you are using power to stop the bike falling in and have to use the rear brake to hold it back. You're not slowing the bike with the rear brake, you're fighting...

    rear brake upgrade

Got dot 5 fluid, braided hose, HH sintered pads, fitted a heat sink on the caliper. Doesn't take long before it's squealing like a pig, gets v v hot too, was smoking nicely after the last competition run. Since all the changes listed I've never had it overheat but the squealing is really...

    rear brake upgrade

Because it's such a feeble little caliper it has to work really hard, I thought a larger caliper with maybe 4 pistons might spread the load a bit, dissipate heat better etc. Even better if I could find a bigger diameter disc to go with it, more leverage from a bigger diameter so won't need to...

    rear brake upgrade

Has anyone fitted a different caliper/rotor to the rear brake. I'm doing Moto Gymkhana on mine and have nearly set the thing alight a couple of times. I've fitted a heat sink to the caliper to dissipate some heat and stop the fluid boiling but the basic fact is the caliper is a weedy little...

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjKIxiGei6k Pretty sure Alabama is in the USA, not sure if there are other groups in the US though. As for skills, I first had a look at it towards the end of 2013, tried one of their experience days and was not very good. I decided I was going to give it a...

    fz6 for moto gymkhana

Started using my FZ6 S2 for Moto Gymkhana this year, anyone else thinking about having a go? I've raised the bars, geared it down and made myself a finned rear brake cooler, all not necessary but gave me something to do. If anyone's interested there are a few of regional clubs, the East...

    ECU reflash / throttle hesitation

Bike is in good condition, not too many miles, throttle cable slack removed, that idea with the sleeve is interesting as another thing I could do with doing is setting the tickover about 3000rpm, can't get that high with the idle speed adjustment. A lot to do to make it a really good...
