    FZ6 Fuel Economy

2005 model, not a hard rider, 260lb rider, 10100 mostly commuter miles (11 mile commute to work, usually @ 70-75mph) with rare long rides, running conventional Yamalube oil (but I'll be switching to synthetic at the next oil change). Mileage is checked every tank: Worst Tank = 39+ Miles Per...

HEY YAMAHA - Read this, FZ6 Owners talk about the FZ8

Dear Yamaha - All the FZ6 needed was a more real-world engine - more torque at a lower rpm. Nothing more. The FZ8 takes everything that was good about the FZ6 and throws it away (undertail exhaust, light weight, good price). I've owned two Yamaha's to date (both bought new) - looks like me...

    Hand Vibrations

When I switched to my '05 FZ6 from a '92 XT600 Seca II (that's the Diversion in Europe for you Euro riders) I immediately suffered from tingly to completely numb hands after less than 20 miles. Situation solved with Gen-Mar bar risers (1-inch), a slight change in the bar angle, and Olympia...

    Luggage???

+1 on the Nelson-Rigg IF you can't afford hard luggage - only downside is (lack of) security. Stuff stays on and does the job. I have the CL900 mini saddlebags (don't hold a lot, but aren't huge and ungainly on the bike) and the CL-150 tail bag, which holds a large Nolan flip helmet without...

    Scary Crash but good outcome

One of the worst crashes to watch since watching Wayne Rainey's crash that left him paralyzed - I was really thinking this one was going to turn out the same. Pretty good advert for ATGATT!! jZ

    Anyone sharing my shame?

104 yesterday, 98 today, still riding and in full gear for my commute to work. y'all are wussies ... :Flip: Seriously, motorcycling is supposed to be fun, so if it isn't because of extreme heat, cold, or rain, then go ahead and take the cage. This ain't some BS macho contest ... jZ

    17T Sprocket results

I'd be curious to see if there is a significant mileage difference with this mod since its actually possible to drop rpms and see a mileage loss because the motor is now running so far below its torque peak that you use more throttle to maintain speed. This mod doesn't seem to be an extreme rpm...

Novelty helmets & Harley Riders = Death

This is actually the first time I've seen a new report talk about the difference between a real helmet and the fake stupid novelty helmets the Harley riders are so enamored with. Does no good to report "The rider was wearing a helmet when he crashed" as I see in most reports when in fact it...

    Considering an FZ1

Not sure I'd be concerned. At 6000-9000rpms you are really only working in the mid-range of the FZ6 motor. There isn't any high-rpm stress occurring since it'll safely spin to 14,000rpm. And the torque peak is about 9600rpm, so you don't even have that stress acting on the motor in the range...

    Headlight Question

I used the Silverstars until I changed the low beam to an HID on my '05 FZ6. The Silverstar offered a small but noticable improvement over regular low beam halogens, but little difference on hi beam. jZ

    Can Am Spyder

Not a magazine I've seen that has tested one could get even 30 miles per gallon out of it, which is totally ridiculous. You'd almost have to try to design a tiny vehicle like this to get that poor mileage. Heck, my Miata manages that day in and day out, is a blast in the curvy bits, and I can...

    Do you do this too?

No matter how good a bike it was, I wouldn't own it if it wasn't also beautiful to my eyes. You betcha I turn and take another look at my FZ! With any luck the upcoming FZ8 will be as beautiful in person (and be available in the U.S. !!!!!!!!!!!) jZ

XENON HEADLIGHT BULBS vs HID HEADLIGHT KIT

My experience with the Xenonrider HID retrofit in my low beam: 1. I think there is something to the claims of light scatter when putting an HID retrofit into a stock reflector when the HID replaces a dual-filament bulb like an H4. Replacing that bulb with a single filament HID would...

    Top Saddlery seats

I don't want to hijack this thread, but for you folks who have the TS seat, I'm wondering - the sculpted seat looks like it'd be really comfortable for the rider, but how about for the passenger - as comfortable as stock, or less or more comfortable? Thanks to all ...

    Most Dangerous Highway in USA.

Tailgate wrote "Americans just don't know how to drive (my first impression)." YA THINK???? Cripes, in America if you manage to parallel park ONE TIME (in a parking lot, not even out on the street) you are basically licensed for life (and thus licensed to kill - apologies to james Bond)...

    bothering trend .. rant ..

We could have plenty of nice-looking, good-running Japanese "entry-level" bikes here in the USA - goodness knows they make them for other markets - except for the American obsession with size (600cc seems the minimum acceptable size here, and it better be a lot bigger than that if its a cruiser...

    Suggestions for everyday riding gloves?

I really like my Olympia 410 Gel Sportgloves - the gel palms are very helpful in reducing the vibes that have messed with my bad wrists, and they held up adequately in my one get-off. $40 at my local shop. jZ
