Just listened to video - that is definitely not a rod knock. Could be some lash in transmission gear train. That bike is gonna run a long time.:thumbup:

If there is no noise along with the feeling of the knock, I doubt a rod is culprit. How about out of sync injectors? would cause an uneven idle but barely noticeable at running speeds. BTW, my idle is at 950~1000, and is smooth as silk. Keeping idle speed low helps to keep bike cooler in stop...

My mileage may be hard to believe, but I more "cruise" - I have fun in twisties, but I don't hammer it - mostly foothills and into the mountains here in northern Calif. You get too aggressive on those roads and the only thing that will find you is a bear..... Anyway, I have gotten up to 60 MPG...

I suspect the charging system. If the battery is fully charged, it will read 12+ volts. Right after charging it may be as high as 13, but should drop back to about 12 volts or so. Leave the meter on the battery terminals, and start the bike. The voltage should only drop a little bit as starter...

Check voltage as you push start button. If voltage drops, the battery is defective....even new batteries can fail. If the voltage remains at 12, check solenoid / starter.

Most of today's modern engines are designed to run on regular (87) gas - period. I have managed to get detonation only a couple of times with rpm's too low, and that was my fault for not having downshifted on time. Save your money for wax, oil changes or whatever....
