    Headphones?

I use these, they definitely fit all of your criteria. I don't use them running, but my wife just tried them out on a run and demanded that I order some for her.

    Best Insurance?

+1 for State Farm. I pay about $12/month for full coverage and you can't beat the service. They won't let me take the bike off insurance during the winter, but at that price I can't complain.

    More Custom Mods...

Hey everybody, just a quick update on some more custom mods. First of all, I finally went full monty – installed the VS-1 kit: Installed these mirrors. The old post about the undertail, FE, and chain guard is here...

Custom undertail, FE, and chain guard (lots of images)

I'm afraid I'm not much help there either. The chain guard and undertail were both made drawn out by hand on the stock metal and fabricated to fit as needed - no plans used, and none ever derived from the finished parts. Maybe a good winter project if I can find the time, but no guarantees.

Whoa, STEP files, that's a new one, had to look it up! :D The FE plan was laid out in Photoshop, so unfortunately I can't convert to either of those file formats. Don't have the software to do it from scratch either. Sorry! :don'tknow:

Got some requests for details on the FE. Here is a drawing that I started on awhile back, but never finished. Now I can't find the original paper template, so hopefully this will do. Anyway, the best thing would be to scale and print it actual size - no ruler required. :D

    Members near fargo, nd?

Grand Forks. That's "near" in ND terms, right? Don't get down there often on the bike though. Not many of us around these parts on fizzers - just wanted to let you know you're not alone. :-)

    New Project: Slab Yokes

Wow, those are some hunks of metal! Looks great so far. Can't wait to see the results.

Quick follow-up: Stupid idea #1: Painting the nuts and washers. Most of the paint started to come off or loosen up when the bolts were torqued down. And, since they were not stainless, it was only a matter of time before they started to rust. Which leads to... Stupid idea #2: Using Hex...

Custom undertail, FE, and chain guard (lots of images)

Thanks everybody! I haven't noticed any heat, but it hasn't gotten above 70°F here yet. Sorry, I have too many irons in the fire. If I don't finish painting the house this summer I'll be in trouble! I can post more details about making the blanking plates if anyone's interested in making their...

Custom undertail, FE, and chain guard (lots of images)

Here’s a look at the assembly and a summary of the hardware used: Assembling and running wires. Instead of using the stock plastic retainer plate, I just zip-tied the wires using the two slots in the sub frame: All done! I’m happy with how it all turned out. For folks with...

Custom undertail, FE, and chain guard (lots of images)

Here’s the undertail and fender eliminator that I proposed in a previous thread Nothing too fancy, but after a few hundred miles it seems to be working just fine. I haven’t washed the bike since installation, but the underside of the tail will definitely be a lot easier to clean up, and the...

    Different FE idea

I'm ditching the hugger for purely aesthetic reasons, but I am also trying to set the bike up for more gravel riding this season. Kind of a catch-22, I know, but that's partly why I want a rugged steel undertail instead of plastic. Also on the mod list when the tail is done is a custom radiator...

    Different FE idea

I'll definitely post a how-to if it all works out. On my '07 I don't see anywhere else to bolt the front end of the "fender" other than the rear peg bracket holes. At least not anywhere aft of the shock. Maybe if it extended forward of the shock on either side, it could attach where the rear...
