I use these, they definitely fit all of your criteria. I don't use them running, but my wife just tried them out on a run and demanded that I order some for her.
+1 for State Farm. I pay about $12/month for full coverage and you can't beat the service. They won't let me take the bike off insurance during the winter, but at that price I can't complain.
Hey everybody, just a quick update on some more custom mods.
First of all, I finally went full monty – installed the VS-1 kit:
Installed these mirrors.
The old post about the undertail, FE, and chain guard is here...
I'm afraid I'm not much help there either. The chain guard and undertail were both made drawn out by hand on the stock metal and fabricated to fit as needed - no plans used, and none ever derived from the finished parts. Maybe a good winter project if I can find the time, but no guarantees.
Whoa, STEP files, that's a new one, had to look it up! :D
The FE plan was laid out in Photoshop, so unfortunately I can't convert to either of those file formats. Don't have the software to do it from scratch either. Sorry! :don'tknow:
Got some requests for details on the FE. Here is a drawing that I started on awhile back, but never finished. Now I can't find the original paper template, so hopefully this will do. Anyway, the best thing would be to scale and print it actual size - no ruler required. :D
Grand Forks. That's "near" in ND terms, right? Don't get down there often on the bike though. Not many of us around these parts on fizzers - just wanted to let you know you're not alone. :-)
Quick follow-up:
Stupid idea #1: Painting the nuts and washers. Most of the paint started to come off or loosen up when the bolts were torqued down. And, since they were not stainless, it was only a matter of time before they started to rust. Which leads to...
Stupid idea #2: Using Hex...
Thanks everybody!
I haven't noticed any heat, but it hasn't gotten above 70°F here yet.
Sorry, I have too many irons in the fire. If I don't finish painting the house this summer I'll be in trouble! I can post more details about making the blanking plates if anyone's interested in making their...
Here’s a look at the assembly and a summary of the hardware used:
Assembling and running wires. Instead of using the stock plastic retainer plate, I just zip-tied the wires using the two slots in the sub frame:
All done!
I’m happy with how it all turned out. For folks with...
Here’s the undertail and fender eliminator that I proposed in a previous thread
Nothing too fancy, but after a few hundred miles it seems to be working just fine. I haven’t washed the bike since installation, but the underside of the tail will definitely be a lot easier to clean up, and the...
I'm ditching the hugger for purely aesthetic reasons, but I am also trying to set the bike up for more gravel riding this season. Kind of a catch-22, I know, but that's partly why I want a rugged steel undertail instead of plastic.
Also on the mod list when the tail is done is a custom radiator...
I'll definitely post a how-to if it all works out. On my '07 I don't see anywhere else to bolt the front end of the "fender" other than the rear peg bracket holes. At least not anywhere aft of the shock. Maybe if it extended forward of the shock on either side, it could attach where the rear...
Hey everybody, I've got a plan for the rear end. Any thoughts on this?
Removed hugger, passenger pegs, and big ugly plastic thing hanging off the end. My thought is to create a durable, easy to clean underside for the tail. The part for the license plate and turn signals would be just...
I have one as my first helmet ever, so I can't compare to others, but I have no complaints at all about the IS-16. I think that the quality and features you get for the price are hard to beat. Helmet fits me great, and I can't imagine doing without the integrated sun shade. Only fogging issues...
I was a little nervous! A few times around the parking lot to get a feel for the bike and then off to hit the open road. So smooth and stable at highway speeds though, it was pure fun right from the get go. And this is Grand Forks ND we're talking about here - 10 very straight and flat miles out...
6'1" - I feel like the FZ6 is the perfect size for me. I sat on A LOT of bikes this spring during my search for a bike, and couldn't believe how cramped I felt on others like the SV650.
Hi everyone,
Been around here off and on since May, just finally getting around to filling out my profile, uploading an avatar, etc.
I got a red '07 FZ6 in May, my first bike! No prior riding experience other than a BRC two summers ago. Riding the bike home from the dealer was my first...
