I have a feeling once I get my nakified bike back I'll be riding slower on the commute.
My co-worker uses his BMW R1200GS as his touring bike and then got an Aprilia Shiver 750 as his commuter but hated the naked-ness and so just got a 4TH bike (he also has a KTM 450), a Suzuki Bandit 1250S.
I'm glad you made this post because I binned my bike last week and to repair it I am converting it to naked. I commute 20 miles on the highway with it so I was concerned with the aerodynamics.
I usually ride no faster than 80 MPH but the winds can be terrible on the stretch of 101 between...
So State Farm is not screwing me around and offered me virtually the same amount I calculated as the "true value" of the bike. However, they're willing to sell it back to me for a mere $500.00
If I am reading my mechanic's quote correctly to get it safe/rideable (ignoring cosmetic, tank, and...
Well the shop said they'd likely buy the salvage from me depending on the price....they've treated me very well in all my past transactions so it wouldn't be a big deal.
Called my insurance, they're processing it.
Minimum hassle. I will not spend the next 3 weeks scouring the internet for cheap replacement parts. I'd rather pay the deductible or have them pay for the repairs and get back to riding.
So the repair estimate MINUS fixing the scratched up frame is about 71% the value of the bike. With the frame plus additional labor it's worth more than the bike. I am certain if I make a claim they will salvage it...which I could potentially buy back as well.
Does that make sense for me to do?
I'm not especially heavy. I weight ~175 lbs and I'm 6'. I don't see myself buying a Corbin. Honestly you'd think more MFGs would put in a stock seat that was comfortable out of the box.
I find it fine for a few hours but then I feel like my ass is broken. But taking a break and walking around fixes me right up.
I'm considering a Top Saddlery, but the reviews of the Corbin have been awful saying it might take 2500 miles to "break in" and that it might never break in.
I have a 2005, so I'm not sure it's compatible with his 2007 parts, plus he has all the rear plastics and I broke the front, but I appreciate the head's up.
