I did the 520 chain/sprocket change and went +2 on the rear sprocket, no change in the front. Supposedly only gives the bike an extra 500rpm but the bike does feel snappier. Are you keeping the revs above 8,000 in the corners? I'm slow on the track but I can usually pass faster bikes except on...
I'm riding an older 2006. Throttle snatch at low revs was driving me crazy, especially riding roads with switchbacks or at track days. Power commander 3 completely solved problem with a slight increase in fuel consumption.
Some folks have suggested the Dunlop Q3, which I currently have on my bike. Ok tire but according to my tire supplier, who happens to be a former pro racer, they are more suited to hot climates. I have chunking happening on one side, the result of track days on a cool track (The Ridge near...
Price sounds a bit high even by Canadian standards.
As other posters have mentioned the bike is very tame below 8000 rpm.
I'd be inclined to replace the brake lines, rubber degrades over time. Stainless steel braided brake lines definitely last a lot longer and improve braking feel.
That check list looks like it was designed for race bikes. Northwest tracks just check for liquids leaking, clutch and brakes adjusted correctly, brake pads and tire wear. I recommend grabbing an instructor and focus on getting smooth. Don't forget to lower your tire pressures. Track days are a...
Do you guys ever do track days at ORP, mxgolf's bike definitely appears to have the necessary mods for a track bike. I'm envious you are within a reasonable distance from ORP. Made my first pilgrimage there June 22/23, awesome track but a long days ride to get to Grass Valley. It would be a cool...
S20's after the Q2's, I like trying new types of tires.
Original bridgestones - crap but they lasted a long time
Metzler M3 - liked the feel but the front cupped and rear squared very quickly
Michelin pp2 - made the bike hard to control in corners, biked wanted to turn too quickly. my least...
I strongly recommend a new rear shock. I was constantly hitting the the peg feelers until I upgraded to a basic Ohins rear shock (the front already had intiminator valves and heavier spirings). It is well worth spending a few $$$ to have a competent suspension specialist do the intial setup. It...
I love my BT-016's. Usually run street 32/36 or 33/38 with touring luggage. Track days I drop to 30/30. 9 track days have done in the the edges of the front tires but the rear sides are ok. The rear centre is getting a bit worn. This is my second set of these tires, too bad they are no longer...
If you have a stock shock get a good aftermarket one (Ohlins, Wilbers etc.). I found I had to crank up preload on the stocker to stop grinding feelers but the bike was not as controllable. My Ohlins give a more compliant ride and the back end sits up a little higher for more clearance. Same goes...
I did not have chatter but there was a lack of braking power. Turned out there was rust in the brake pistons (or whatever they are called).
First thing the mechanic said was 'how did youy do that, only happens if the brakes get very hot and wet'. I have done track days in the rain, amazing how...
