License plate laws

I know there are guys on here from all over and I was just wondering what some of the laws were from state to state (and from country to country for all you other guys out there) about the visibility of the license plate on a motorcycle?

hmm I know that oregon you must have a front and back plate for a car... but a bike seems to be ok with just the back and I believe it needs to have a light, however I do not see anything on the website about it Oregon state motorcycle laws

In California the vehicle code states:

"License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground"

fz6joker: I can't even see your license plate; is it really there? On another note, I imagine that the red light cameras don't like motorcyclists since 1) there's no front plate and; 2) operator is often wearing a helmet shield that is glary? And fz6joker---I doubt that a camera could even pick up your plate? This is of course, not a reason to run a red light, espcially on a bike. However, now I understand the cameras are also targeting motorists who don't make a complete stop before making a right turn and the fine/violation is the same as if motorist blows through a red light. Revenue? Hmmmm....

That's for sure a fix-it ticket in SoCal. I'd at least bend it down some so you can see part of the numbers.

in NC it supposedly has to be visible from 50 feet at night.... when you cant read it 25 feet away in daytime because the text is so small

Florida just passed a law saying you can't have your plate mounted sideways anymore...

I dont know the law but I can imagine (with the number of guys with pltes tucked like the o.p.'s) that the cops won't stop you for it (unless they are having a bad day) but will add it to your list of tickets if you do get stopped.

In the uk the number plate has to be 9 inch by 7 inch in bright yellow, with huge numbers in black in 2 rows so low flying planes can read them :spank:

they also must have the name and postcode of the maker

failure to do so gets 3 points and a 60 pound/120 dollar fine

why even run a plate??? that set up would get you a ticket in Ca. + no license plate light.

NH says it has to be lit and visible from a car behind you. Your setup would be a ticket here.
