2009 Yamaha V-Max

I've never cared for the V-Max, it has it's place I suppose.

How many of you guys remember the Honda V65 Sabre??? Not the butt ugly V65 Magna, but the standard?

I would love to see Yamaha make a true standard with the V-Max motor, that would be a blast!

I read about the b-king hayabusa the other day I kind of like it better than the VMAx

If I recall correctly the VMAX was based on a Yamaha "sport" touring machine, "chopped" to fit the image they desired. Can't remember which model though since it's been 20+ years since I read that article.

I thought it all started with the V4 marine engine that got reworked for a bike....

I saw a B-king in a shop in South Carolina thing was absolutly massive! Did not look comfortable either. Personally thought it looked like they went in the warehouse and grabbed a bunch of parts and made them fit......

yes but they did work on that it has the sport style tires. actually i think they are based off the warrior wheels if not the same, will help drastically with cornering. Im sure there will be a small windshield available. this is also fuel injected the old one was carb. big difference there. this bike is nothing like the old vmax cant even compare, just like the first gen XB and the second gen XB only thing they share is general look and name. The origninal VW Beetle and the New Beetle same thing there. This Vmax is nothing like the old Vmax. Check it out VMAX MICRO SITE Then after you look at all the technology that has gone into it you will understand the reason it has the price tag it has plus u have to look at inflation! back in the early-mid 1980's when the Vmax was introduced things were alot cheaper and people made alot less money so if you figure it all out prob the price is in tune with how it was back then. In 2006 with inflation gas was cheaper than it was in 1950. These companies dump millions in R&D, If they didnt think it would sell they wouldnt have produced it.

I agree they're fun to look at. However - before you run out to buy it, take the time for a simple test. Take the fairing(s) off your FZ. Now go out and do a max-speed run - or at least 120 mph - whichever comes first. Assuming you make it home in one piece - wasn't that FUN? (NOT!) Now imagine twice the horsepower... and tell me you're ever going to use it... I don't know, maybe someone out there will - but it wouldn't be me. In the city they look cool and from stoplight to stoplight they're hard to beat (with the right rider). But for an all-round bike - Mr VMax: I'm sorry but you're just not in the running.

you must drive an american car too.....you wanna be just like everyone else.....I dont think anyone buys a VMax to be an all-round bike..... Do people buy Vipers and Corvettes to be all around cars. no...... If you want an all around bike then i guess you better buy a scooter... hmm light, nimble, bigger displacements are faster than some smaller cruisers.... The yamaha majasty will do 109mph. thats faster than the VStar 650...

What's wrong with driving an American car? I like my Dodge Caravan. (well, North American anyway, I think it was made in Canada).

You probably drive a Fiat - so there :D (just kidding).

And a scooter in triple digits? No way... at least I don't think the stock 400 can get there.

came from yamaha themself at one of the dealer shows in vegas.... dodge hmmm sorry nothing to say and nope i drive a 2008 Scion XB....Its a Toyota.. no need to say anymore! and before that it was a 1998 new beetle 2.0 5 speed. that was a great car, never did anything other than general maintance. sorry didnt really mean anything mean by that just as being like everyone else as theres tons of them on the road!!! thats all not a big fan of "american" cars. kinda like harley's over priced and under fine tuned!

Given Detroit's habit of not paying attention to what the consumer wants I can't really argue about the cars. Harleys however have a ***tload of aftermarket options and you can fine tune till your wallet implodes.

We can agree on our cameras though! I got a Nikon D40X and so far have been very pleased. Tempted to get 300 mm zoom but it's a tad expensive. Since I retired I have to be more selective about which toys get priority.

The original VMax motor was based on the 1200 cc V4 engine used in the '83 Yamaha Venture. Performance was fine-tuned and the hp number was greatly increased over the original output of the V4.

as far as under fine tuned i was talking about stock! Of course there is a big after market. I mean a cobalt can be turned into a crazy race car have seen it done. But it is nothing like that factory!

I'll argue that the Harley V-Rod is pretty fine tuned from the factory. Personally I don't like them even a little bit, but some do. If you've got the money Harley's got a way to separate you from it. I'd rather have their baseline Sportster 883 (retail about $7k) if I was going to get another HD.

Oh boy!! I've already made a topic that defies the Vmax. Here are my likes:

LIKES

-Engine
-Technology
-Bridgestone Tires

-Clutch

LOOK AT THAT ENGINE!! It's ssssooooo cooooooooooolllll!!!

DISLIKES

-200 Rear Tire
BAD!! When you go to the drag races, you NEED to burnout those tires to warm them up!! Tire sizes UP TO 190 are easy to replace, but 200 is...well....look here:
200 50 motorcycle tire tire, eBay Motors, Asian items on eBay.com

I barely found those. They MUST be V rated, radial, 200/50 18. Not easy. Not cheap. They're rare!! Why put rare tires on a bike that DESIGNED TO BURN THEM OUT!?!?! AAARRGHHHG!!!

Now if they were 190/50-ZR17 tires (just like the YZF-R1) look at what happens:

190 50-ZR17, eBay Motors, New items on eBay.com

There's a HUGE selection of 190 tires and they're cheaper!! At least they're Bridgestone...

-4 gal. Plastic Fuel Tank coated with Fluoride!!
You spent WHAT to get a PLASTIC FUEL TANK that's TOO SMALL??? AARRGHH!! Even Harley Davidson uses a METAL fuel tank!!

-Shaft Driven
I like shafts as much as I hate them. I like belts. End of Story.

-Looks
Okay, the bike looks a little slapped together, but so did the Millenium Falcon from STAR WARS. However, any Luke Skywalker at first glance will say, "What a piece of Junk!!"

You'll have to justify why the Vmax 2009 kicks so much ass, unlike Harley Davidson that just blatantly says, "Get away from me or DIE!!"

There you go. I think my final decision will come down to a quarter mile time. If it can kick the crap outta everything else like it says it can then I'll find another excuse to like it.

My hubby and a bunch of his Vmax friends got to start the 2009 new Vmax. Its a prototype and will be crushed I believe they said in October. Thought I would post a video showing them reving up the bike... Apparently the camera audio doesn't do it justice, but it is what it is. I remembered this thread from months ago and decided to update it from pictures
