Low range from a fuel tank or ??

Hello everyone, I am new to motorcycles, this Yamaha Fazer S2 is my first big motorcycle, coming from a YBR125.

I have a question about the MPG

I filled it up maybe 2 weeks and a half ago ? I did 125 miles in it and the fuel gauge shows 2 lines only. Is that something this motorcycle does ? Because everyone told me it can easily get 190-200-220 miles on a full tank.

I ride normally, very rarely riding if hard.

I am asking because my YBR had the same issues, showed that it was almost empty but still had around 80-100 miles left, I know that you can’t really compare both, but maybe I am right ?

A look in the fuel tank might help. Could be a bad sending unit.

I did look and I can see fuel on the bottom but that doesn’t really help me ) wish I could tell how many litres I have left

I don't find the fuel gauge to be terribly accurate so I wouldn't worry yet. You've used over half a tank and it's showing a third remaining. There will be a warning message when there is only about 1 gal. remaining and it will tell you estimated miles or km's remaining til empty.
After you've refueled a few times you will have a better idea of the gauge accuracy and whether you are getting proper fuel mileage or not.

I’m gonna ride it till I get the light, but I am also worried that I won’t make it to the petrol station, also I am worried that the motorcycle might have some issues, I hope I can get another 60-70 miles ! I’ll keep you updated

You said you know you have put on 125 miles, so I assume you marked down the mileage when you filled up. You don't have to wait for the light, fill up and calculate your fuel mileage based on how many litres it takes to refill.

I use one of the trip counters to keep track of my mileage and reset it every time I fill up, because I don't find the gauge accurate enough.
That being said, with in-tank fuel pump, you don't want to run it too low, I always try to keep at least a third of a tank (when I don't need to put on lots of miles per tank).

Should take 12-13 liters. If it takes a lot more then that then your bike is using a lot of fuel…could be as simple as a dirty air filter.

Also You can disconnect the battery for 30 minutes in case volatile memory in the the ECM had learned and bad words for some reason. Other suspects might be air temp sensor, air pressure sensor and throttle position sensor.

UPDATE , sooo I think there must be something up with the bike, so basically I have turned in on, gas like was flashing, then it stopped and it was a steady one, singular.

Soo I went to the petrol station just 30 minutes ago, I refilled a full tank of petrol, and to my surprise, only 13.79l went in the tank ? Huh? I thought I have no petrol at all. So I did some maths and turns out I had 5.61L left. Sooo why is the motorcycle trying to tell me that I am so so close to be empty, I know the reserve kicks in at 3.6-4L.

Also brand new air filter pretty much. Changed it about 3 months ago. As well as the other things than you can change, not the spark plugs tho .

Sounds like your fuel consumption is good. Do a battery reset and see if the fuel gauge returns to normal.

The good news is that your fuel indicator is pessimistic and not optimistic.

The gauge reading low when you still have plenty of fuel is normal, (IME).

When my low fuel light starts flashing, it takes 2.5-3 gallons to fill
IE, it's only down MAYBE 2/3's of a tank..

I average, mostly around town, about 44 MPG so your range of about 200 / tank is again normal..

I'll still top off that early as the fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool, IE likely longer life overall for the pump..

I don't keep track of (odometer) of what I've rode with that last fill up, just top off occasionally and go ride..

The gauge flashes once or twice as the bike boots up so that is normal, and not an indication that you were on reserve.
The steady single bar was the reading, I don't think there is anything wrong with your bike.
1 bar should mean you have somewhere around 1/6 of a tank left, plus reserve (so 4 to 7L range).

I'm in the UK too and get roughly 200 miles (full tank to reserve) in the summer and 175 in winter due to the different fuel formulations used.

I fill it on the side stand until the bottom of the metal "strainer" under the fuel cap is completely covered by petrol.

I keep the display on "Trip 1" and reset it when I fill up.

You should get about 40 miles when F 0.0 appears on the display, ie you are just into the 3.9 litre reserve, according to a YouTube video from a guy who did this to check, but it's not a good idea to do this as you get crud in the bottom of the tank that can mess up the fuel filter.

Personally I've never gone much more than about 20 miles into Reserve.
