Engine Hesitation/Power failure

Hello,

My 05' FZ6 just started having hesitation around 6250 RPM. Now when revved to that point the engine just cuts off. After a few minutes it will start up. In the meanwhile the starter wont turn over. Under 6250 RPM the engine idles perfect and runs fine. All 6 gears under 6250 perfect. I think it is either:

1)Spark PLugs
2)Injection Coil
3)Fuel Injection issue

Can some one Please help

The check engine light has not come on so I have no code. Thanks,

How many miles on this beast?

Sounds like a fuel filter or injector issue.

So... you hit 6250 RPMs and the motor cuts off and you can't restart because starter has become inoperable?

What are you doing to recover starter motor? Do you just have to wait a period and it will eventually start?

I have 6900 miles on thee bike. The starter becomes in-operable and then after a few minutes it will fire up. Rev fine under 6000 rpm, idle fine. I rode it home after problem with my flashers in, under 6krpm with no problem. I have detected twice in 6900 miles that when I pulled in my clutch the rpm instead of going to idle, bike turned off. To rectify problem, I turned key to off and then on and bike fired up and idled fine. Only has happened twice in almost 7k miles. I spoke to a mechanic and he said since the check engine light has not come on, it could be one of three things:

Ignition coile, spark plugs or fuel injection system. I read about a problem someone had with a fjr read as follows:

While riding the 2007 yamaha fjr1300 the motorcycle shut off abruptly. It was as if the key was turned off, all lights and instruments went dark. I was able to clear traffic and get off the road without being hit, could have been ugly. The dealer at first claimed no knowledge of similar failures, when pressed they admitted that yamaha knows that 2006 and 2007 fjr ignition switches are failing with regularity, yamaha provided a replacement ignition switch. Tearing the old switch apart revealed that part of the plastic was melted and the main feed out of the switch had unsoldered itself from its post. Having the engine shut off unexpectedly on a motorcycle in traffic can be deadly. Yamaha asked if i had any accessories wired onto the bike which could have caused additional load on the switch. I do not, the only load on the ignition switch is what is designed in by yamaha. The dealer kept the old switch after it was taken apart. I was not allowed to photograph the failed components.

This is my exact problem. It might be this?

this sounds like bad battery terminals, the faster the bike goes the more power it requires, terminals get hot no current untill cool down. The bad part about this theory is the electrics should run staraight off the alternator, but this is still the first place i would look, it has to be electrical because of no starter. Sorry didnt see the bit about clutch as well, also check your stand switch.

After doing more reading, my bike sounds like it has the symptoms of a faulty TPS throttle position sensor. Does anyone know anything about this issue with 05' FZ6.

Hi Mate,

There was a recall for TPS on 05 models. This was carried out free of charge. In the UK to ascertain if your bike received the free swap out. All you need to do is give the dealer your ID number found under the seat.
There was also a front sprocket retainer issue that was covered by warranty.

I would suspect the TPS as well. My 04 FZ6 started running very erratically in traffic as if it was suffering from fuel starvation. Phone Yamaha and give them your bike's VIN and they will check if their records show it has been done. If it hasn't they will send you a letter to give to your dealer.

Even if that doesn't turn out to be the cause, it's worth doing as it will cost you nowt.

You are 100% right man. I just had my TPS and front sprocket nut and washer kit replaced.
But i have a problem now. When ever I am crousing, and just matching up the RPM to the cruse mode, and if I start to accelarate gently, its starts jurking front and back. Like it look like its going to shut off but it doesn't. I called them back and now they want to bring my baby back to see of what they messed up. Not happy tho but I feel like the bike is running better. The idle has been ajusted between 1260 - 1420.
Since you know of what you are talking about every time you post anything here, and give good feedback about stuff, would you mayble have a feedback on the problem that dealer did not fix correctly. Do you think that TPS that was changed, is not correct one or mayble that TPS is recalled it self self.

my 04 fz has never had a prob.....should i get the recall done anyway?
