FZ6 may be going into the shop!!!

Well....Danny rode the FZ6 to work today and as he was splitting a semi and a truck, towing a trailer, the bike SHUT OFF!!!!!!!!!

He's so pissed right now.....he's saying F'k the FZ.....and wants to trade it in. I told him he needed to calm the F down and just take it to the dealer for a diagnosis.

So.....we'll see what happens.

Danny can probably troubleshoot it himself before taking it to the dealer...

There aren`t that many things that will "shut off" a bike while riding it.

Did the engine just shut off on its own? what about the electrical side (speedo, etc...)?
Did he hit the kill switch by mistake?

I thought he was riding the ninja because he knew he was having problems with the FZ? Hope you guys get it sorted as painlessly(sp) as possible. Let us know how it turns out.

He did not hit the kill switch by mistake. If you had read his thread, "my FZ6 crapped out on me", then you would have known he was having problems.

He does not have the patience or time to go through the bike....it's easier for him to just pay $45 for someone to tell him what is wrong.

He was riding the ninja, but he thought the problem was spark plugs, so he bought some and just put them in yesterday. But...that wasn't the problem.

If he had just bought gas, and he had a fuel related issue earlier, it may of stirred up the water on the bottom of the fuel tank.(if there is water in the fuel) I am just guessing here, and its at the shop. It could be anything, but if it comes back clean from the dealer I would suspect water in fuel. It can be solved by draining the fuel, pouring in 95% pure alcohol, swirling it around and draining that as well. Then refuel. I dont know where the fuel filter is but I would assume its in the tank as part of the fuel pump assembly. That would need to be changed as well.

Fuel floats on water, so if it build to the top of the fuel inlet it will kill the bike. Alcohol bonds to water very well and will remove it.

Glad he's ok...I understand about wanting to dump it after all that. I did the same with a great Ford Ranger I had (no one liked but me).

It has to be electrical..fuse box / relay / base wiring).

It can be a pain, but better off doing it himself. not worth paying a jackass to tell you it was somethign simple and that he will charge you for two or more hours for it. it happened to me once.

Has the bike been in water lately? I have read where others have had a problem with bike shutting down after a rain or washing.

I won't find out what they find out until Tuesday, I'm so agitated I really don't care what it costs to fix it. I'm doing something I've never done with any vehicle I've ever owned before, I'm paying to have the dealer service it go through the whole bike replace the tires, and send me the bill. the initial problem was annoying, after having the bike completely die on me three times on the way to work,I'm kinda torqued at it right now and I figured sometimes it's better to suck it up and stimulate the economy then absolutely get disdain for the bike I love. this is the first real time I was ready to say goodbye to the FZ and was serious. I hope it's something stupid that will make me feel better about the bike again. if it's something major (cdi,ecu or something else) I'm going to have a serious grudge against Mr. Yamaha. after all the bike is only two years old and as I passed the key over to the dealer it had 17,307 miles on the clock. if it is bad gas I want some one (sideshow downs, hellgate) to dedicate a magazine for me and fire at will!!! (or at least call in one air strike) aside from my rant, so far the bill is up to $589.98 and they don't even know whats wrong with it yet. I told the service manager to have them take it out and ride it like it was stolen before they tell me it's fixed. my budget for the repairs is $1900.00 so I better have enough to fix it or I'll be parting it out and buying a new horse. after not riding the FZ for a few weeks I felt like I was straddling a cement truck compaired to the ninja 250. but when it would run it felt like a cruise missile though

I've got it.

I took up a Scythe and a 'Rang to visit The Iridium Terrorist. You know the one with an R6? I asked him about engines shutting down on freeways and such. He laughed.

Did you know there were "silent" remarks about the R6 shutting down by itself? No lights, warnings or anything. Yamaha made some recalls over this matter.

The problem was a THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. You know the TPS? The sensor needs to be replaced with a new one.

OR

A faulty ground.

OR

Wiring Harness damaged.
