Heat wave!

It was 122 F in Borrego Springs today. I'll be riding there in full gear tomorrow on an errand. I think I'll put some cold beer in my hydration pack...

You've probably already heard of it but they make a "cooling vest".

You simply soak it in either a bag or sink with water, ring some of the water out and wear over a single shirt, UNDER your regular jacket.(not dripping wet)

It works surprising well!

You do have to "re-charge" it (especially that hot outside) at about every gas stop, but does lower the "feel like",
body core temp easily 10 degrees..

I wear 2 layers under my gear. My first shirt is a compression type shirt I got from Cyclegear name "Heatout" It does give a cooling effect when air moves past the the perspiration that it has been absorbed in the material. My second shirt is a long sleeve Pearl Izumi cycling wear. I get pretty great air flow through my Speed and Strength Top Dead Center leather hybrid jacket. As long as I'm moving...

Goop and I hit serious heat on San Filipe Rd last Saturday. It was the hottest part of our ride and was much hotter than when we left Borrego Springs which was 105 f

Well I'm out of here early to try to beat some of the heat.

My house air cond broke on Monday. Couldn't get a repairman until Firday. Of course, hubby is out of town working until Friday. Convenient for him!! Poor puppies are melting. House has been averaging 82-85 degrees inside each afternoon. High temps 100+

I ended up not going because I just replaced one of my LED headlamps the day before and it failed the morning I was going. I ended up working on my bike and getting the lamp repaired and so it looks like Tuesday am.....

Invest in one of those portable (on wheels) A/C units 3-$400 for a good one.

I have one for the family room that the generator can easily run (hurricane, power out, HOLIDAYS, etc). Well worth the $...

I have another wall unit A/C in the garage (built thru/into the concrete wall) that can get colder in the garage than the house!

Yep. We bought a room A/C Friday about 3-4 hours after hubby got home. He was hot. BTW- Friday temps were only high 90s. I just ordered another one. lol

First quote for new unit was WAYYY too much. Got a second quote today. Reasonable ($8000 less than first one). I'll have central a/c again on July 20. UGH!!!

Dropped into Anza Borrego yesterday via Montezuma Valley Rd. When you start the descent you're leaving a little town called Ranchita and you look down to the desert floor from 4000 feet above sea level. The desert floor at the Salton Sea (a lake in the distance near the horizon) is 225 feet below sea level. The air was very clear and I could really see the Salton Sea as clear as I've ever seen it. I'm sorry I didn't stop and take a picture of it from 4000 ft.

Here are a few pics from a pull out at 2300 feet. I was lucky and it was only 101 f at the time I hit the desert floor. Pretty hot in full gear......but.......it was a dry heat...Lol!:rockon:
