OK I have had a Brain fart. I will try to post photographic evidence, so that my peers may judge me with all of the facts. I have just been to Ireland for two weeks holiday. Prior to going I was just making sure that my garage was secure ect. I was just walking my bike out of the garage and I caught the hem of my trousers on the pedal of my cycle. I had that awful moment when you over balance and for a brief moment you still think you got it. I didn’t still got it and I dropped my bike. Now this in itself is not such a big thing however, only a few weeks previously I was joking at the expense of some of the other rider’s misfortunes, and posted a reply stating that my bike was still a “minter”. I also manage to land the bike on a set of dumbbells that I cant be arsed to use so I now have a nice dent in the petrol tank.

I think I will tell on my Wife. My wife and I were on our motorcycles guiding/ leading about 80 bicycle riders on a city sponsored bicycle race through town. There were two motorcycle cops assisting us. About halfway through the course the lead cop unexpectedly turned and stopped his police motorcycle in the middle of the road. His police partner almost hit him and had to swerve to the left into the ditch to avoid a crash. I was in a position where I could easily swerve to the right around him and stay on the road. He knew he had messed up by the look on his face as his partner and I maneuvered to miss him. Unfortunately, when he did this unwise stop, my Wife was looking back at the bicycle riders to check their distance and position. When she looked forward she was headed to T-bone this cop. To the right of him was me, to the left of him was the other cop. I have never seen her stop and control her bike so well! She had no problem keeping her bike straight and managed to get her speed down to about three or four mph before her front tire hit his rear tire broadside. She told me later that she figured rubber hitting rubber would be best. She knocked him down, balanced for a moment, then fell over her self. We all picked up both cycles and she took off to get back in front of the bicycle riders to guide them. The cop kept saying over and over that he was sorry and that he couldn't believe that either bike had no damage, not even a scratch. This happened two years ago. I still like to tell people that my wife has been in only one motorcycle accident and that was when she hit a cop!!!

btw- We don't participate in that bicycle run anymore. We came to the conclusion that there were too many distractions and hazards to us and we have found other safer community projects to help with. You know, like filling up balloons at the city carnival!! LOL

I guess I can come up with one.

This did not happen on my FZ but on my DRZ400.

It had been raining lightly earlier on the morning when I got hungry for some breakfast on a Saturday morning. I did what is my usual custom and went to a local diner for ham and eggs with toast. Apparently the parking lot had been freshly sealed prior to the rainy season. I got on the bike forgetting that knobby tires don't grip wet pavement and took off. I got a round the corner of a planter when I hit a slick spot and did a perfect spin with the rear tire orbiting the front. After a full circuit the bike laid itself over sending me sliding across the wet pavement and breaking my clutch lever in the process, and bruising my ego pretty good as I had an audience, who of course didn't want to get wet, leaving me to pick up myself, my pride, and my bike.

Having no way home but to ride the bike, I disabled the clutch safety switch and press the starter while running like a duck with the seat under me, the DRZ being a rather tall bike. I never realized just how many stop signs and traffic signals there are in that 3 mile stretch. Every time I stopped I had to use the starter to get going again. Thankfully the battery held out until I got home.

I guess there is my entry.

Damnit Perry that sucks man. Your the only one in the running since the rest are not recent.

I am sad to say I dont know where to get the decals. I am forcing myself to leave my decals on until it gets good and cold here. I will have to have something to do.

I bet the tank will look better with out them. If they are going to paint and repair the tank, it probley wont be much more to get the side pods to match.

That is one of my winter projects this year too.

I know mate, who would have thought. That 400lbs of motorcycle being held by a skinny aresd brit. Could have so much damage caused by landing on 60 kilos of steel dumbell.
amazing.

Neil, I can't stop laughing after I saw your quote of "I was joking at the expense of some of the other rider’s misfortunes, and posted a reply stating that my bike was still a “minter”. To top it off, the pics you provided us just enforced your story even more. You have my vote! Sorry about your tank, have you searched online for a spare or used tank? If there is anything I or any of us here in the states can do, let us know. Not sure if it's any cheaper getting one here and then shipping it directly to you.

You can find the decals at any OEM parts site. I have never used the following site but it will give you a starting point for part number.

OEM Motorparts - Yamaha

Thanks for the vote of sympathy (not) lol. Im glad to add to your everyday amusment. It just proves that ,what go's around comes around. If I am sucsessful in being nominated then I will take the horse to Buckingham palace and pose out side with it and post the pic on the site. I might even manage to get a cop to present it to me hows that sound? I can't remember what the abbriviation for the horsemeans UWH?
Im not gona buy a new tank as its way out of my budget. I have been quoted a resonable price for repair. I'll get it done when the weather turns crappy.

Its ugly wooden horse, and I think you are the winner. Nobody else has even stepped up to the plate.

I dont think your title needs to be changed to crash though. Maybe Droppy but not Crash.

A pic at Buckingham Palace would be great. That made me laugh.

I am so ashamed of this one. Thankfully it happened on my old bike, a FZR 400. My english is not great so bare with me. I used to work as an electronic technician a few years back and and one day a friend gave me his wifes hair dryer to repair. He placed in a plastic bag and off I went. I had the bags handle openings round my left wrist and the bag on top of the fuel reseviour. As soon as I made a right turn, the bag slid to the right and got caught between the bikes frame and fairing loking up my left hand. Keep in mind that this happened in about a second. When I attempted to straighten the bike up I could not straighten out the handle bar and down I went. I broke the front turn signal and cracked the fairing. Shamefull....

Ugggh. My name is "shame". Tank Dent Help?

I still can't believe I did this. I went to the Yamaha dealer yesterday to get a cable lube clamp. I was pulling into a parking space and just coming to a stop with my left foot down like always, when I noticed an oil puddle that I was about to run my tire into. So I hit the brake to stop short of the puddle, and somehow I lost my ballance. The bike started leaning to the right. At first I thought I could stop it, but it was just a bit too late.

It was the slowest crash ever. I don't even think the bike made a sound when it hit the ground because I was fighting to hold it up all the way. Alas, there I was laying on the ground, still stradling the bike with the engine running. I hit the kill switch after drawing much attention to myself with a throttle surge. A couple of sympathetic guys helped me get it back on the rubber, but I felt like such an idiot.

The bike did sustain some damage. I scratched the edge of the right mirror and turn signal, and bent the brake pedal in about 3/4 in. I thought that was it at the time, but when I got home and had a chance to look it over, I noticed the dent in the tank. I must have dented it with my knee when I was trying to keep the bike from falling.

I've had a number of motorcycle mishaps over the years, but dropping my 2 month old bike in front of the store where I bought it was definitely the most embarrassing.

Anyone know how to get a dent out of a tank? I tried a bathroom plunger with no effect. :(

Not so much of a what was i thinking moment but more of a i can't beleive that i did that.

It was about 1am after 15 hours of riding and about 700 miles i was exhausted and riding home. my wife was behind me on her bike as well and i stopped at an intersection because there was gravel in the road and didn't want to take a turn at speed on gravel. i came to a complete stop and when i put my foot down i was so tired that i couldn't hold up my bike so i tipped over, when i got up i looked back at my wife to say " i am ok" and saw that she also had dropped her bike for essentially the same reason. So we both looked at each other and at our bikes in the middle of a deserted road and just started laughing at ourselves. which in turn woke us up and after picking the bikes up and heading on our way we mad it home with no further incident.

I have one:

I was riding and noticed a major oil leak (it was spewin' all over my back tire...) so I pulled over and called my friend (a bike mechanic) He said, "just stick a rag in it and ride it over here."

Some guy gave me a rag so I shoved it in where it was leaking  1/2 mile down the road my bike burst into flames! I flew into a parking lot and tried to stick my hand in the fire to pull out the rag but the flames were too hot .... I managed to get a fire extinguisher but I damaged the fairings, wiring....moral of the story is: don't always listen to your mechanic. :spank:
