New member - Emissions question.

Hello,
I'm a new member (California, USA) in search of a FZ6. I would like to consider purchasing a low mileage 2004-2009 FZ6 from outside the state of California. Unfortunately, the rules are strict and if the engine is not compliant with CARB then the bike must have more than 7500 miles. My question is were FZ6s all 50 state compliant? Perhaps the units from the 2007-2009 period which seem to have extensive emission controls?

If somebody knows or could have a look at the emissions sticker on their bike (that was purchased outside of California), I would appreciate it.

Someone per past experience here on the forum might have the answer to this but I would also call Ca. DMV and ask them for input.

The suffix letter "C" on the model I believe denote a California model. Fro Example: FZS6VC

Thanks, unfortunately, I don't have much faith in the DMV.

Confusing but it looks like the 8th position in the VIN can NOT be a "C" or "3".

I don't recall the details but it seemed like CARB approved FZ's for CA, had a charcoal canister added to them on the late model 07-09. Beyond that, the model was not too different.

I was hoping that would take 5 minutes (a quick walk to the garage).

Mines an 08 - pretty sure it says nothing of 50 states! Let me zoom in on a sticker. Surely I have one picture of the right side.....

I took that thing off a while back and didn't save it. Prob would have to add emissions stuff to register in CA tho, idk for sure.

The 07-09 is not 50 state compliant according to the owner's manual since only the California "C" model has a canister.

"Canister (for California only)
This model is equipped with a canister
to prevent the discharging of fuel vapor
into the atmosphere. Before operating
this vehicle, make sure to check the following:

Check each hose connection.

Check each hose and canister for
cracks or damage. Replace if damaged.

Make sure that the canister breather
is not blocked, and if necessary,
clean it."

Looks like I will need to be sure it has > 7500 miles if it is from out of state.
Not the end of the world but good to know.
