Cheap Exhaust Ideas?

I currently have the stock exhaust, and am looking for a little more. I would like something a little louder and better sounding. It seems like all the exhausts are $550+! Is there anything cheap and affordable (I am a college student)?
 
you could do the 3/4 drill bit but has to long enough to go in the stock can and just make as big of a hole you can on both cans. All i did was went to home depot and bought the longest ( 12" ) put the drill bit in a good drill and just start drilling, You will know when you get threw. When you feel it BORED out enough then start it up so shoot out any metal and you will see and hear a difference. Hoped that helped. Do you have an audio/video clip of what it sounds like? I was thinking about doing that (temporary thing until I can get some new exhaust cans) because the quiet whisper of the stock exhaust isn't the sound I'm trying to go for.

Ahh, a fellow Duluthian! Did you grow up there? I grew up there, went to UMD for a year and a half, then transferred to NDSU in Fargo and graduated from there. How's the weather? Heard y'all had a big-a$$ snow storm again in April.

99.9% positive that all the 04-08 pipes are the same.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I was looking for some differences between the 05 engine and the 07 engine. From the basic specs, all I could see was a slight change in the compression ratio....one is 12.1:1 and the other is 12.2:1. I don't think that would have much of anything to do with exhaust flow that far back in the pipe. I did notice the ends of the pipes for the 07 have the new cone-like ends instead of the older style.

Any other ideas? I won't hear back from Leo until probably later tonight (Baghdad time). Of course, if Leo trained the tech guy well enough, he'll tell me that no, I have to buy specific pipes for the specific year... :confused:

I concur, sounds like crap, I would love to fit a CBR style can on mine, I like the single pipe idea the most, however it will be a while before I do any real mods, saving for a track day first !!
 
Well, it's official. I got an email back from Manny with Leo Vince and he said 2007 pipes will not fit on the 2005 Fizzer.

Hi Aaron,

The 2007 pipes will not fit on the 2005 bike. There are a different
orientation on the pipe that connects to the stock headers.

HOWEVER, I was talking about putting the 2007 CANS on a 2005 FZ6. So I wrote Manny back:

Thanks for writing back. I wanted to double check something. I'm not talking about putting a full-on 2007 exhaust system on a 2005, but just the slip-on silencers, connecting to the rear end of the stock pipe. I won't be attaching anything new anywhere near the headers. I'm just looking at replacing the stock silencer/muffler with the 2007-style titanium cans.

Is it a different configuration on the cans with the 2007 style?

I would have to agree that it sounds like he was talking about a full exhaust replacement by mentioning the headers and pipe orientation.

All aftermarket slip on's for the FZ6 just attach to the end of the CAT pipe with some form of "Y" pipe. That location and orientation hasn't changed at all, nor has the frame or underseat area that the stock pipes follow under the seat. I"m pretty sure that pipe diameter hasn'et changed either (cost effective to keep uising same materials, etc.). I also can't see 07 mufflers not fitting an 04, 05 or 06 (even 08) as nothing has drastically changed in regards to the exhasut or it's location on the bike.

As far as I know, except for the swing arm and removeable passenger pegs, the FZ6 frame hasen't changed much at all since 04.

Here's and inexpensive and sound effective option, unbolt and remove the muffler assembly. :rockon: Just watch the hot gases at the back of your knee. :D

I wonder if it`s worth to penetrate that hard my Beloved`s butt... ;)
Excluding the louder noise, any other benefits from this "drilling" ???

Does anyone have pics ot idea what`s inside the muffler??
