Thats messed up. Last time I checked you need probable cause to pull someone over. If this dude was simply driving below the speed limit, I dont see where teh cop got off pulling him over.

Regardless of "what happened yesterday or last week" you need a valid reason to pull someone over. And then to confiscate his camera as "evidence", arrest him for a tucked plate, and impound his bike all for a crime that never happened..thats just an abuse of power and flat out wrong.

The Police do not need an excuse to pull you over.
If they werent allowed to stop you, for nothing, many DUI's would be thrown out of court..unfortunatly...

This guy will probably get a big fine, and I doubt he will ever get his camera back...

I like how the accompanying news report is just a transcript, good journalism there! Messed up story though, reminds me of the one where the unmarked cop pulled the guy over(he was speeding but still) and immediately pulled a gun on him without announcing he was a cop

Reading through the article and some of the responses, there's a little more to this story. Apparently, a similar group (50-100 sportbikes) shut down traffic on the expressway last year:

And also, apparently, Texas allows the officers to arrest people for most infractions, hence the arrest for the license plate (which I believe was hidden in a suspicious manner). Factor in the hearsay nature of the article, and the whole thing sounds a little less extraordinary.

I don't know what's it's like in Canada, but here in the goold old USA we have freedom. Police do not have rights to pull you over for no reason. They need PROBABLE CAUSE.

nice try, but the video is from last year. You can't arrest somebody for what they might do.

The officer clearly stated the reason for pulling him over... for the purposes of confiscating personal property as evidence of crimes. I doubt the officer had any reason to believe an actual crime was committed other than similar types of vehicles did something bad one year ago on the same day.

Only people that can be pulled over "just because" are truck drivers....no probable cause needed. Everyone else, probable cause is needed.........

What I found really interesting was the number of interpretations of the legality of the stop. The "Probable cause" theorists all have much to say in the subsequent commentary in the linked thread.
I still don't know what "Probable cause" is and is it really interpreted differently in each state?

they still can't confiscate someone's video camera just because if might have evidence. If you can't catch the perpetrator then the get away, simple as that. This violates the biker's 4th amendments right.

That video made my blood boil. That dude was asking to get rear-ended. THEN he as the nerve to go back, grab drugs (or something) from one of the girls, THEN he as the nerve to go back and get one of the girls (probably on probation or something). Not sure if it was the same guy who did all three but wow... brass balls.
