Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and I'm interested in purchasing a FZ6. I currently have a RoadStar Warrior, and a first gen FZ1, the FZ1 will go to its new owner on January 10th. The FZ1 is incredible, but I despise carburated motorcycles, it sat most of the time because I use the Warrior for everything but long distance touring. My question is, I've seen alot of used FZ6's. What are the major differences in the years? I sat on a 2009 left over today, and wanted to know if the fairings were the same on all the years? Also I did the Buell foot peg mod on my FZ1, has anyone done this to the 6? Thanks everyone.

2004-2006 were the S1 version.
2007-2009 were the S2, main differences being updated fairing, swingarm design, brake calipers, and extra cats in the headers along with an O2 sensor.

An S2 would be preferable, but either are good bikes. Goodluck!

its not much of a different setup and I'm happy with my s1 version, but i wouldn't mind an s2 as well..

welcome to the forum :welcome:

If by better faring you mean full sport faring then you are looking at the FZ6R. This is a very different bike then the S models.

Yeah, the 07+ instrument cluster is virtually the same as the FZ1. There's a better assortment of aftermarket windshields for the S2's also. S1's have silver frame and engine, S2's have black frame and engine. Problem with the 6 over the 1 is you'll get better MPG's and lower insurance.

@dave, problem with the 6 over the 1 are 2 good things? :D

Difference between the US old fz1 vs european fz1, is that we call it the fazer 1000. Like there is a fazer 600. Both carburated bikes.

A more recent version of the fz1 has fuel injection.
If I'd have to pick between the fz1 and fz6 right now, I'd take the fz6. More useable power on the street, and a MUCH more comfortable ride.

I do believe the 06's came with black frame and engines.

speaking of the different models whats the "C" on the end of the model name mean like "FZ6S(C)" is it a canadian bike and if so whats the difference?

Californian version (something about those emission laws I thought :))

The earlier models also have a LCD tach, whereas the 2007+ have a traditional analog tach.

I have an 04 Fz6 and my only complaint about the bike is the analog tach. My wife has an 08 and it has an analog tach which I would prefer. I'll live with the tach because mine is faster than hers! :BLAA:

If you want an analog tach, search the internet (or eBay, if you like) for:
- S2 tach
- S2 wiring loom (RJ14)
- S2 fairing stay

Off course the S1's are faster than the S2's... they revised that version for "looks" ;) (Pff, who wants a black frame?? :Flip:)

You will enjoy the fuel range and mileage on the 6 versus the 1. 250 plus miles on the highway. 200 around town depending how you ride and how much you weigh.

Leftover 2009, you shouldn't pay over 6k for it.
