Oil Level Switch / Sensor disable?

2004 FZ6 11,500 miles
Laid bike down 1.5 months ago but only cosmetic damage.

Changed oil the first time last weekend. Drained oil in evening then couldn't get filter off so waited til morning then had to flatten one side of filter to get channel locks on it to remove...thanks last owner! :Flip:

Anyway...I added about 2.5 qts then started bike like usual for a couple minutes then add the other .5 qt for a total of 3 qts.

Oil level light starts flashing 10 times indicating faulty sensor which was fine up until the night before.

Everything is plugged in and sensor is snug in pan. Tried unplugging sensor but light just flashed even with key in "on" position.
Really don't want to pay over $100 for new sensor. Don't want to drain oil again to check sensor if don't have to because apartment manager nazi hates when I work on the bike.

Questions:
Is it possible sensor is stuck due to motorcycle sitting overnight without oil? Woulda thought it would have unstuck after 5 days of riding though.

If I cut the wires to the sensor and leave them unconnected or cut them then connect the two together (depending on if it's a naturally closed or open circuit), can I fool the ECM into thinking all is fine so the light will go off? Don't need this "feature" anyway.

Or am I just screwed out of $100 now??

I would get a new sensor. 100 bucks is lots less then a rebuild if something goes wrong.

Understandable but I check the oil level each week with fill up so not really worried about it.
If we were talking oil pressure sensor I'd throw down a bill for that!

The oil switch shows an open or closed condition. See attachement, #11 is the oil level switch. If you can't see changing it out right now it looks as if you can either jump the wires or pull the connectors. If you pull the plug and there's no change then jump the connection and that should bypass the the problem. Put a new one in if possible.

I already disconnected the sensor from the harness which caused the oil level light to come on even when the key is in the "on" position and the bike is not even running so it must pick up on this.

So per the diagram this would be a naturally open switch? So when the oil level drops too much it closes the switch and the light comes on?
So if I were to cut the wires and just leave them unconnected this would simulate an open switch and shut off the light?

Guess I could just cut it and see...

You should just be able to unplug the sender. This will create open circuit. You shouldn't need to cut wires.

Jump the wires for closed condition...

True...I'll try jumping them in the plug and see if it goes off.
