The last thing Ducati needs is German "refinement". There was talk late last year of a Harley Davidson Ducati merger of sorts. That would make far more sense than VW.

How so? Have you seen the latest Bueel, with a modern engine? I have never been impressed with VW to begin with. To think of them mucking up Ducati...
Hummm....this is an odd one me thinks. VW is cash strapped, Porsche is making cash so they are buying a controlling interest in VW. I don't see how Duc fits in. They need the cash I suppose.

Oh why not? Buell engines are now Rotax so go jump on the Ski-Buell or Buell-Am!

if harley and ducati merge i will stop biking. How could the builder of over priced under powered heavy and in my opinion ugly bikes take over the light nimble sex on wheels but still overpirced ducs. plus it seams like harley guys r just a buch of rich wimps. not saying they all r but ill take a hundred plus mile ride on a sport bike and they cant sit on their 30 grand lazy boy without complaining for 50 miles.

It kind of makes sense really, Ferrari are owned by Fiat, Fiat have a link with Yamaha (hence Rossi riding a Fiat/Yam in MotoGP), Suzuki already have both car and bike (albeit the cars are a bit rubbish).
In the ever increasing sectors car manufacturers are trying to get in to, motorbikes makes sense, they get to have another market sector, and with congestion as it is, the sales are only going to get higher. Porsche have bought a controlling stake in VW to retain it's own sales (the R8 is going to give the 911 a kicking - mind Nissan's GTR at have the price is going to create waves!!).
In terms of mucking Ducati up, that will be the current owners job to ensure the brand values etc are retained. If ducati's were a bit more reliable, and cheaper to maintain, I prob would have got one instead of the FZ..
