I was just wondering if any one as had a 24,000 ml Service on there fazer. I have now managed 24,500 miles, so would I need a major service and would it include valve adjustment.

My mot is due in March next year so I was thinking about having the service then, as I would only pay for the Service as the mot is free. I have been quoted £300 for this Service do you think this is a reasonable price to pay, and would it be OK till next March.

If you havnt done anything yourself yet, you'll prolly need to regrease a lot of bearings (steering head/ swing arm) /possibly change fork oil/ get valve adjustment/ change coolant/ change plugs...probably forgot some other things.

If you bring it in for valve work, have em check the valves and call you to let you know if any are out of spec. That way if it is just 1 valve SLIGHTLY out of spec, you dont have to spend a couple extra hundred dollars on shop time to have them take the entire top end apart. Good luck :D

well my bike had a full service history up untill 18,000miles then i had to move away from my dealer thus it is still awaiting its valve check albit the bike is now on 40,000miles so i wouldnt worry about it o much.

i have been doing filters, plugs, oil and coolant changes myself though.

There is a school of thought that the shim / bucket valve train wears next to nothing. Hence the 26.000 mile interval valve inspections. Usually there should be no real reason for it to change, unless there is something radically wrong - and that should show up before that time. My brother is a certified mechanic, and had his own shop for Saab, Volvo, Audi etc. His experience with similar valve trains is there is nothing to do - they never vary. I doubt I will bother with that as long as there is no noise, I will be meticulous with other services though.

is that when most people check them at 26k? also does the engine need to be dropped down at all to do the job?
