loss of power

hi guys just recently bought a 2001 fazer 600 love it to bits. The first week i had it no trouble whatsoever just this week it has starting to loss power intermetianly feels like im losing a cyclinder checked the plugs and there fine the place i bought it from had it siiting around for about six months with a full tank of fuel in it any ideas.
 
This have Carbs? If so something in the fuel system could be plugged. Does it idle OK?

Can you define; loosing power?
Is that like, sputtering, spitting, bucking, or it just won't go?

Could it be the brakes are sticking on as you use them or is it certain its the engine? We need more details. . .

hi yeah it feels like i lose a cylinder there is still power but not full and all of a sudden will come back to full power i noticed it did it the other day in the rain so who knows.

Could be a secondary coil failure. If you can see the coils and spark plug wires in the dark. Use a spray bottle with water and wet those areas. You may see corona discharge in the dark even before spraying water. It may be arcing inside the spark plug insulator to the engine. Pull the plug connectors and examine for evidence of a breakdown in the insulator. HV (High Voltage) can be tricky.

Check your kill switch. Make a jumper and jump the switch to see if that eliminates the intermittent problem.

Hint: Try running it in the dark 1st. If you see and hear spark jump (arc over) you need to isolate and replace the suspect parts.

If it kills the engine during the water mist test, you have an electrical breakdown of the coils/wires/caps.

A day light test is to use a long screwdriver and with the engine at idle touch the screw driver to the head so as to ground it and point it near the wires (almost touching). If it starts to arc-over and misfire, replace the suspect parts. A short wire with alligator clips can be very handy to ground the screw driver to the engine.
 
hi guys quick update i removed the tank and the was a spade connector just touching but hanging lose i connected and hey presto just to make sure i dis connected and the problem occured again so well happy solved myself thanks for all the input guys
