So today whilst riding, I turned off a main highway onto a smaller road, i'm pretty comfortable on the nimble little 250 so i leaned it in and gave it a little throttle, and by accident i felt the back of my heel hit the pavement along with vibrating/grinding from the left peg.

So i kinda grinned (as one does in twisties) and kept going, however i was thinking to myself, "i could have thrown it in there a little faster and leaned it a bit more" but it appears i have reached the limits of what the bike will do lean wise :(

Obviously a Rebel's got less clearance than the fz, but was just wondering if (everday use) if you guys ever get the pegs down ??

Note: I don't plan on doing it intentionally as it isn't my bike (the rebel) and don't really wanna spend time/money on new foot pegs lol

Nice!

I haven't yet. I don't get too many good, smooth turns where I can really lean into it. And when I do, I usually can't because of speed limits, or I chicken out. haha, Still learning a lot!

Lots of people on here post about scraping pegs. I've ridden my FZ for 2+ seasons now (rode lots of other bikes before).. and have never scraped pegs.
If you use good technique on the street, you can turn at a very respectable pace on FZ without scraping.

Yeah, that's where the "still learning" part of my post comes in. haha, I've got a while to go before I feel comfortable enough to do that.

+1 on what Erci says.

when I was new to the fz I scrapped pegs several times to both sides and thought that was funny (first year or riding it) ... now after 2.5 years riding my lovely naked fizzer I don't consider it funny anymore (not scary either) and don't drag pegs anymore, my lines and body position have changed and I cruise faster than before.

notice that I am not the most agressive rider, but I am not slow either, just learning and practicing more with each ride.

Scraping peg on the Rebel 250 is very easy to do. I have to remind myself not to do it whenever I'm doing a demo while riding the Rebel. I don't want to scare the students, but it's important to stress that you must also lean the motorcycle in order to corner. Easier said then done.

One time when I was 17, I scraped the pegs on a Rebel 250 in a parking lot!

Unfortunately, I was also simultaneously scraping the handlebar, gas tank, and both turn signals. Slid out to avoid being speared by an El Dorado... My first and only motorcycle accident. :disapprove:

I have since scraped the pegs on my V-Strom (on purpose) but have yet to put the Fizzer through its paces in some serious twisties. I live in Oklahoma City, aka Flat, Straight, and Windy. The only way I can scrape pegs in-town is on those 270-degree on-ramps!!! :ban:

don't think i've scraped my pegs, even on track, but then the previous owner had already ground them down quite a bit, so it probably has more clearance than normal

i scraped pegs (well the toe of the boot) on the delivery bike, but it was on the verge of losing the front, i could feel it squiggle. on the fz im far off from scraping pegs because im not skilled enough and im a chicken at when it comes to tackle corners at speed

I learned to ride on a rebel and was lucky there was any peg left it was so easy to scrape them. On the fz I have managed to scrape both pegs on a really tight L turn up the road from my house and just last weekend I scraped the right side riding in circles in a parking lot just to see how far leaned over I could get.

Pegs and side stand are quite easy too scrape if you go for it, on the FZ6.
Strange feeling going around a track hearing something scrapping, but it not being the pegs, only too find out your missing part of the base of the side stand.

Chicken strips not touched. . .

Sadly my tires still have tits between the shoulders so I'm not laying it down far enough. :(
I purposely leaned it over in the driveway to see how low it needed to get for the pegs to touch and crap thats a long ways!!! Obviously the suspension was not loaded so this was pretty meaningless butr either way, I guess I'm a chicken at this point. . . lol

So, you guys who ground the pegs, did you do this are listed tire pressures??? No fear of tires sliding???

Don't feel bad about it one bit. The whole chicken strip thing is total BS when it comes to measuring your skills. It's not about leaning the bike over as far as possible. It's about taking curves in a perfectly controlled manner. Less lean angle = less likely to dump it. This is why it's necessary to slide one cheek off into the turn when you really push it (can't race competitively without shifting weight).
Also crucial to roll on the throttle continually all through the turn to keep suspension in its happy place (far more cornering clearance too). Combination of taking turns crossed up and rolling off the throttle can easily cause pegs/stand to scrape.

Track riding is another story. Read plenty of reports that FZ, properly pushed, will scrape both center and side stand.
