A huge part of America's success is found on EVERY US coin. The US Trinity:

In God We Trust --- Recognition of Judeo/Christian values in forming a solid society. But now we are turning into a secular country, just like Europe. It failed there, it will fail here.

Liberty --- You are free to go as far as you want and not be constrained by the notion that 'you have earned enough' or 'not paying your fair share of taxes'

E Pluribus Unum --- From Many, One. The great melting pot, people came here and became Americans as part of their agreement in being allowed into the country. Not any more, now it is just fine to live in some enclave and never learn English or interact with America.

The denigration of the founding principles started back in FDR's time with the founding of the modern welfare state (Social Security), continuing on with LBJ's Great Society (Medicare, Medicaid) and continuing on with Mr. Obama (Obamacare, taking over GM, etc). All these programs are popular because everybody likes FREE stuff, but once you tell people that being lazy is OK and the Government is here to bail you out you are on a downhill slope. The world of the Left operates on a 'feel good' principal, or as Tom Sowell calls 'Stage One Thinking', i.e. not thinking or analyzing of 'what comes next or what is the impact'. Instead decisions are made on how it makes you feel. This foolishness accelerated when Vietnam war protesters took over universities in the late 1960's. Administrators let under 20 kids set the agenda as to what they wanted to be taught, they capitulated. Now these radicals run the universities and populate government. A disgrace.

Secular Europe failed? I don't think so... :) It is a part of our liberty here.

Interesting story. A friend of mine arranges immigration into Australia. The language tests are pretty tough, your level of English speaking, comprehension, reading and writing has to be more than just passable to get the nod. I don't know of another country that has such strict entry tests, and not just language. In my opinion it is the way it should be.
Believe me, the questions aren't difficult. And not everyone has to sit the test - depends on what type of visa/circumstances apply to you moving to Aus.

Also, this has only been in for a couple of years.

Yes. It's why many Euro countries pay 50% of their income into taxes and you pay 2-3 times more for "petrol" Than America. In a socialist thinking country...the working man takes care of his family and helps take care of the lazy man's family too! :cheer:

True Liberty does not punish success and it does not bail out failure.

i hate to be this guy... i'm very libertarian and enjoy talking politics a lot! especially with people that i disagree with. i love listen and learn. even so, this site used to have a political section that i rarely posted to but loved to read. it used to (and no longer has) because many can't separate their emotions from political discussion and it caused problems. i see this thread starting to hit that tipping point. you guys might be wise to step away from the political talk.

This thread has served us well. . . Thoughts were shared, the blind saw for brief second and no one seems to be spitting nails. It's all good!

I'm not a big political person, I just couldn't help but share some of the stupid things we throw our money at here!

New thread:
You none USA people do know our government was threating a shutdown because they dug such a deep hole funding stupid "insert lord knows what here" and thought it best to just close the doors. . . . OMG - help us get rid of the politicians. . .

Part of the citizenship test is an English reading and dictation test. Its just not that difficult to pass.

I was born and raised in Scotland and came here on a temporary assignment in 1993. I met someone over here, got married and kind of sort of forgot to go home. Having had a green card since 2000, and an American wife and 2 American Children, I applied for citizenship in November of 2007 and after my fingerprinting and background checks was summoned for my Citizenship test in February of 2008. I had studied the book and audio CD they give you that explains such important things as who the president is, who takes over should he die and which Thursday in November is Thanksgiving. Needless to say I aced the test.

Then came the English Language test. I had to read and write a sentence in English. The Sentence I had to read was "They live in a big house" and the sentence I had dictated to me was "They drive a red car". The only thing easier than this is the Texas Driving Test (3 x Right Turn, 3 x Left turn and a parallel park).

Don't get me started on the idiocy of illegal immigration here in the States. I'm sure I would find out what the limit is for length of a post!! To me it's as simple as calling it what it is...ILLEGAL! Don't get me wrong I'm all for immigrating LEGALLY but when you sneak across the border with your hand out with no intention to help society you should be stopped permanently....if you know what I mean.

A post advocating murdering people gets 3 likes.

Enter most European countries illegally you get exported. Enter most Asian countries illegally you get thrown in prison. Enter most middle eastern countries illegally you get shot. Enter the US illegally you are given a driver's license, government housing, healthcare, your illegal children born here are given citizenship and you don't even need to learn the language! :cheer:

I laugh when ever I think about the first time I talked on the phone for the first time to Jules and Deb when they came to the states from Oz. We couldn't understand each other because of our accents. The internet was clear as a bell! In person we got better at it but still it took a while and still we would hit a few words that weren't working with the accents.

What? What??? Whaaaat!?!?!? :rof:

But Cliff, we don't have accents over here. It's only people from elswhere that have accents:confused::BLAA::D

if he's advocating murdering people who are here illegally then that's wrong. i didn't read it that way or else i wouldn't have "thanked" him. after you point it out i can easily see how it reads that way. not that i need to, but i just feel the need to speak up as to why i thanked him since your post basically said i was all for murder.

no need to reply. just have fun with the bar fight :D

this brings up a question i've had. ok, growing up we obviously thing we do things the right way. i thought (and still think) why does everyone else talk so funny. but one of my favorite bands growing up was def leppard. i always wondered why british people sang like americans. ;) not that this is something i ponder often, but i was thinking the other day... "i wonder if the aussies and brits think we sing like them?"

so, for all y'all that talk funny :scared: ... do you sound like us when you sing or do we sound like y'all?
