How awesome are leg waves!?! A guy on a cruiser did one to me a week ago when he overtook in the right lane and since then I've been overtaking all the bikers I can just to do it! :) Quite a few of the older riders return them in the same way. I love it!

Are you sure they weren't trying to kick you out of the way :BLAA:

But yea they can be cool but if done wrong look very weird.
Personally I don't bother as it is so easy to raise a hand. Although maybe next time someone lets me out infront of them and I'm turning while clutching and accelerating etc and my hands can't move I'll throw my leg out (just hope my boot doesn't come of and skull them square between the eyes)

PS. I think we need a smilie for a leg our hello symbol!

Ha! I stick my leg out all the time too! But over here in French France it's what you have to do when you overtake because we drive on the right - if you use your clutch hand nobody will see you, if you use your right hand you slow down! :BLAA:

We also use it to thank cagers when they move over for us if we pass on the left, but use the clutch hand when lane splitting or passing on the right (yes it happens a lot  ) The leg is also used to point out hazards like pot holes, mud etc to riders behind you when on a group ride!

On a busy day I feel like I'm doing the Hokey Cokey...

Thats totally what I would think if I saw someone with their leg out. You can actually misguide people like that!

leg waves to my right are common when I split lanes on the freeway to thank or recognize the driver for acknowledging me and giving me some room to move on by, I'd rather have my hands on the bars while in between cars.
