red lights are there for a reason, why dont you just slow down when you approach lights rather than trying to 'gun' it to get though them and be all cool. believe me, when you run a red light and actually hit something or someone, you will not think you are cool, a riding hero, or what ever else you think you are by riding like that on the road. yes it is fun riding fast, but keep it out of town. you say what you are doing is safe, it really isnt!

For your very post you decided to post here? Listen here buddy, nobody's trying to be cool. I'm trying to avoid two things here, a $100 ticket or locking my rear tires. So I'm not running red lights, I'm trying to beat it. Could I slow down every time I approch a red light? Sure I could, but that's stupid. I would be slowing down enough to make sure I stop at EVERY red light. No thanks.

This is why it is illegal to use any kind of plate cover in IL. I was pulled over in MA because a cop "Couldn't read my plate". It was covered with road salt in the winter.

As to the red light camera poll, you left out the option "It shouldn't matter if there is a camera there or not. You stop at red lights." People seem to think that yellow doesn't mean anything. Yellow is the warning that the red is coming. You should be stopping if the light turns yellow unless you are one or two car lengths from the stop line. Yellow means "Please stop" Red means "STOP". I'm not a pro-tax and fine type person but I have no sympathy for people that cry foul at red light cameras.

Great post! As for the OP, this is MY HONEST OPINION!

Red light camera's are a bloody good idea...speed camera's, that's another issue altogether, and one which "urks" many of us...

But as a motorcyclist that rides at night a lot, through semi-deserted main roads, with major intersections, where idiots who are hopped up on booze, and or drugs, can quite easily speed through interesectiona on a red light, as they have a drag race with their idiot mates, etc, etc...

I dont wanna be the guy who is eating through a straw cause one of these idiots runs a red light and collects me on my bike....

I slow down for major intersections where i cant get a decent view of other vehicles ( because of buildings) coming from a sideways to me, direction.

It's called defensive riding.

If you cant slow down fast enough to stop for a red light, your riding too fast...slow the f*** down! before you kill me!

I like to ride fast, real fast in fact, but suburban roads aint the place to do it....go find a deserted road out back of nowhere, at worst, and at best, take it to the track, at least that way, the odds of your stupidity, or daring (depending on your point of view) affecting someone else is reduced greatly at least....

I think going through any intersection on a motorbike is the greatest threat out there. You just can't rely on morons not running red lights, and when there is a 100km/h + closure, there is very little you can do if you are going to come together. Intersections scare the $#!T out of me! Fortunately you don't get many of them out on the back roads.

But, yeah, don't get me started on speed cameras...... :Flip:
