I own a 07 FZ6N and one design point that i always disliked on the bike (that apart i find it great) is the cheap radio-alarm clock the bike has instead of a proper instrument cluster. I find it looks really bad, and is poorly placed extruding outside the front and over the headlight in every possible direction.
I looked all over the net to find a windshield in order to cover that up but since the instrument is so badly placed and the front light is of such a low profile all products i could find looked even worse since they had to be placed even further out to the front of the whole thing.
So i decided to work on my own solution. The first step was to make an extension mounting bracket for the headlight in order to mount it further to the front of the bike and there by create the necessary space to accommodate the cover.
As a result my front light now rests 4cm further to the front and 1cm upwards compared to it's original position. A bonus (at least for me) with the new placement is that the headlight is now a more dominant element of the front of the bike - i didn't quite like how it was cramped (allmost hidden) between the forks.
The second step was to remove the instrument cover and also place it (with the apropriate hardware) aprox. 15mm towards the driver thus making the distance between the headlight and the instrument a bit larger. I had to come up with various solutions to ensure the proper securing in place of the instrument and also make sure it does not vibrate excessively when driving over obstacles etc.
The third and final step was to make the shield/cover and the apropriate mounting bracket for it. The bracket was quite a piece of work - the cover its' self was easier. All brackets/extensions and the shield are made out of aluminium. All screws and other mounting hardware are inox to prevent rusting.
Below are a couple of photos - i am quite pleased with the outcome (as it should be when you do custom stuff).
