New Toy

I've been looking for a 2 stroke quad for about 6 months now. I really wanted a Banshee, but it seems they are like gold around here. I found a 2003 Blaster this weekend that I took a look at. The guy wanted $700, but after i took a good look and pointed out a few things it needed he settled for $500. It's a freakin wheelie machine.

Nice find! I want to have a 4-wheeler again but there's no place to ride it without trucking it for miles!

Cool. They are great fun. I have Yamaha Kodiak 450 - while it is used as a farm bike by us to tow trailer/wood etc around our property - it also flies and is great fun just to thrash around the block.

Yours was a great buy.

how's that rear brake treating you? LOL (if you know blasters you know the rear brake will work for a sum total of 3 times max)

Great price on that bike! Looks like it is in good shape. Still injected or premix only?

The rear brake seems to work just fine, I'll make sure I keep an eye on it. The Injection system is still intact and working, but I'll be blocking it off and premixing real soon.

I plan on fully disassembling it and checking all the bearings and painting some parts.

Thanks for the info man. I'm tring to figure out what size piston and rings to get. No way of knowing without pulling them I guess?

Just ordered a Vitos block off kit from ebay for $31. I can't wait tfor warmer weather!

do compression test. if 110 or above, ride it like it sits

If you want to really get it going, and it needs some engine work, do Vito's 240 kit.

The Banshees are sick, sick wheelers. Since they stopped making them, their numbers are even more limited and everyone wants one.

I've got an 03 Warrior myself. Tons of fun. I need to ride it more, though.

The tear down has begun! I pulled the motor yesterday and did a complete disassemble. I plan on installing new seals, bearings, reeds, piston, rings and a complete carb rebuild. I dropped the cylinder off at the shop to have it bored to 67mm or .040 over stock.

To date I have recovered the seat, painted the exhaust, pulled the motor, and started to disassemble the front end.


Think it will ever run again?

Since you have it that far down, give that crank a going over with a fine tooth comb. Going with a fresh top end on a older lower end will often cause you to have rod bearings fail.

The shop is already on it! They will be checking the crank and pressing the crank out of the old case and into the new case. I didn't mention it before but the old case had a repair so I bought a new a set of new cases.

Almost done!!!!

Here is how it sat yesterday.

I woke up this morning and decided to put it back together. First the engine went back in, followed by a new chain and swing arm roller. I was surprised at how easy everything was going back together. There is usually at least one problem when I decide to do something, but not today.

I also put lower profile handlebars, shock covers, and a new seat cover. All in all I'm in it for less that $800 and I'm almost done. Only thing left is some new shocks and maybe plastics, but I'm in no hurry for plastics.
