Buying my boy a bike! What to get? Help!

Anyone know anyone that has a kids trial bike they want to sell?

Time to get myself organised to get Aidin his first bike...

Thinking something to suit a rather large 11 year old, with no riding experience...

Have no clue what to get him, as i know naff all about trial bikes....

He will go hard...doesnt know any different, and he is over 50kg's in weight, and tall!

Any suggestions????

He rides with you doesn't he? He hangs out with you and fellow riders too. Give the boy a little credit I am sure he will surprise you with talent to be honest.

When I was about the same age I was riding a XR100R. Good reliable units.

I am looking for a quad for my 4 and 6 year old boys to start learning atm.
 
Mate with his age , weight and being tall if you can find one you will not get any better than a PE175 Suki :rockon: , my 1st bike and it was AWESOME :thumbup: They are not real common these days but you can find em' , i'll start looking round....

I'm a Suzuki two stroke fan from way back. Learned on an RM125 and rode all sorts of RM 80's.

I've given you my advice about grunt though....lol...I rode my bro's RT100 a fair bit and it pulls a fat bugga like me around just fine. These newer 2 strokes hit the power band almost instantly and just stay in it with succesive gear changes. Anything bigger than a 125 will scare the carp outta him unless you're thinking about 4 stroke.

I dont know if i would suggest a YZ125 or any onther race bike for an 11 year old with no experience.. those type bikes are VERY unforgiving to a new rider. this is coming from some one who has ridden and raced motocross for 12 or 13 years....race bread 2 strokes are very fast and the power band or curve is not very friendly. I would highly recomend the CRF150F, CRF230F, TTR125, or the TTR225 depending on hight and weight. All those bikes are super reliable and super easy to ride and learn on, with plenty of power avalible when your ready for it. The single cylinder four strokes just have such a nice power curve and are rider friendly. Just my .02 cents.
 
I would recommend a Suzuki DS80 they have a five speed box plenty of grunt and they are as cheap as chips. My son rode it till he was 14yo, now my daughter who is 12yo rides it only changed rings once. Bikes are tough. owned bike since 2000 till now.
They have a power band which is smooth untill you take the baffles out of the muffler then wahoo goes great even for an old fart like me to ride.
 
Just my two bob's worth,I brought my son a ttr125 big wheel(lecky start) when he was 11(he's almost 17 now).If you get the big wheel it comes with pre-load adj on the front & pre-load,comp,rebound on the rear:thumbup:(so you can adjust as he gets heavier,more aggressive).The ttr230 is also a good option but is a little tall for beginer's.Whoever suggested a yz125 hasnt ridden one lately.:rolleyes:

Agree 100% Not to mention YZ125=lots of maintence! go with a 4 stroke play bike! My first dirt bike was a early 90's big wheel 80 then a 98 RT100 then a TTR225 Then a couple of YZ125's that I raced....

Yep, went and had a look at a ttr 125 big wheel yesterday, fits him perfectly, bit pricey new, and not much cheaper for a good secondhand one.

But i aint getting a YZ for his first bike, would scare him half to death if he rode that first! and i want to nurture the interest, not destroy it.

What ever you do dont be tempted by the chinese knock-off's:( as the quality is truly crap.All of the big 4's(brands)125/150 fun bikes are good.What's his favourite colour?;)

Dont worry, will only be buying tried & true quality...i have seen how bad the chinese knock -off's are, very scary!

As for colour, i dont think he gives a crap...just wants to ride!NOW!

Am thinking of the 80cc option, but if i buy new, or newish, then i want something that's gonna fit him for at least a year or 2...he has grown 2 inches in the last 4 months, gone from size 12 kids jeans, to size 26-28 mens jeans in same time....i swear he is growing exponentially!

I started out on a yz80j flog it, then put a race hit through it
rode it and caned it,

I'm sure Wolfmans son has been exposed to the rights and wrongs of bikes
and has got a better education than most Beginner riders have. but if its tame you need i have a honda ct200 in the shed needs tread and the starter looked at oh and a battery but you can have it wolfman
