Fire Sucks

So I rode the new toy on the Big Bear loop yesterday and had a blast, so today I decide to ride out to Wrightwood and try Big Pines Hwy., I think I'm still suffering from smoke inhalation
Here's Jackson lake, that's smoke not fog or haze--

And Hwy 2 is closed again due to fire, just up the road from the ranger station.

It is a sad situation yet again.

Have they put new regulations in place to stop people building in the fire zones or is the whole state just a fire zone?

I think you can build anywhere as long as you pay enough blood money. And all of Southern Calif seems to be a fire zone during the hot summer months, all the firebugs come out of hiding.

We've had our fair share in SD. I've seen the sun blotted out and I've gotten sick with vertigo from the particulate in the air. If the air is bad, get a respirator type filter or stay indoors. I've seen the fire travel from the 15 freeway to the 805 freeway (6 miles) in like 15-20 minutes.

Oh, and I forgot to add that I almost dumped the new bike a block from the house came around the second to last corner and went a little wide to avoid the pick-up coming from the other direction, he was turning right but no threat, and zip, the back tire started to slide out, left foot down and a little flat tracking and no harm no foul:thumbup: Man its hard to see light colored sand on light colored concrete:disapprove:

It's got to be tough out there a lot of times... drought, fires, then torrential downpours, mudslides.... you go from one extreme to the next. Most of the time, we envy you all on the west coast... roads and weather that satisfy any biker's dreams... then there are days like you've pictured... and we have sympathy and wish it wasn't real.

The sad part is, this is easily caused by some careless, selfish person who tosses a lit cigarette out the window... a smoker who thinks the world is his personal ashtray, who cannot be bothered to take care of his butts.... Damn them!

Well the smoke managed to make it to Vegas. You could barely see the strip from where I was at today. It was a very hazy day.

It's pretty much the whole state except the central valley as that is agricultural land. We get all our rain in the winter, haven't seen rain since middle May so things are really dry now and we get more wind in late summer which is the real problem.

We had a fire in Auburn (northern ca) about 30 mile from where I live. Burned over 50 homes in a subdivision within just a few hours as it was windy today. Now the wind has dropped so I think they have a handle on it.
I was working on the dual sports in my garage today with the air attack planes flying overhead as they are based at our local airport. I went over and watched the planes for a hour. SO glad they are based here. Sad day for many homeowners.

Don't forget possible flooding. Sacramento area, if it ever flooded---it would be a "Katrina" scale disaster. Back to the smoke---I dread when there's wildfires even though I'm not in a fire zone. The smoke sometimes, OMG! You can barely breath. Building in fire zones---believe it or not, State of CA requires that insurance companies offer insurance to everybody and at "normal" premium prices. To pay for the huge cost of insurance companies picking up the tab for those repeatedly burned out, EVERYBODY'S premium is jacked up. So, people just keep rebuilding---thanks to insurance---in the same fire-prone areas. Over and over. Can you smell "special interests"?
