New to this site Got ? on FZ6

Hello guys I am new to this site i sign up because this looks like a good place to get feedback on the FZ6.
I don't own a bike right now but i did a bout a year ago, I had a 2007 R6
but it got stolen 8 months later sucks!

well i am now looking to get another bike but this time i am leaning towards the FZ6 I like the looks and how it has an upright riding position.i just have so questions for you guys?

1. How comfortable is it compare to the R6, and for passenger too
2. how much slower is it then the R6 in terms of 0 to 60 don't care of max speed, just like the feeling of taking of fast at times.
3. is it better at commuting?
4. do you think insurance will be cheaper then the R6.
I would like to purchase a used FZ6 because of the price i wont be doing any track because its just not me "yet" and also what are the difference between the model years.whats a good price for a use FZ6 Not from dealer private party. Thanks guys

Sorry to hear about the stolen ride, that really sox. As for the FZ6 compared to the R6, well I haven't gotten on an R6 yet but...
1. Just by the FZ6 ergos, it's a far more comfortable ride. I've gone on all day rides with my buddy without experiencing any back, neck or wrist pain here.
2. As for speed, well I've read here from other members that when put against an R6, the FZ6 only missed the win by the difference of the front tire. Not bad for a detuned R6 engine.
3. Definitely better for commuting, I use my FZ6 year round to get to work. VERY COMFORTABLE. I love the ergo of the FZ6 coz I can see the traffic better sitting up rather than leaning forward.
4. Insurance, well there's alot of things to factor in. Your age, driving history or lack of, motorcycle engine size, type of bike your buying (cruiser vs. sport). I believe under the the Yamaha website, both the R6 and FZ6 is under the classification of "super sport" so go figure. I was told by my insurance that anything under 500cc has a cheaper rate compared to a bike above or at 500cc.
I'm sure some of the other members can shed some more info on this.

Good Luck with the bike hunt. BTW, figure the R6 is hotter on the eyes of would be thieves compared to the FZ6, just my 0.02

The FZ6 is awsome! I love when sportbie guys think they are so much faster just to find out they aint special. The R6 is only a little fast and that doesnt matter if the rider sucks. If your looking for comfort, go with the FZ6. I will say that takeoffs are not my favorite, the bottom end lacks a little, but anyone will tell you that all the fun on the FZ6 is at the top end. You wont be disappointed.:rockon:

Regarding the insurance, when I was getting a quote from my insurer, they accidentally quoted me for an R6 at first, but then noticed the mistake and after the change the price went down significantly (through Nationwide).

They changed a lot of stuff about the FZ from '06 to '07, and the biggest cosmetic change was made from '05 to '06 (2006 is when they started blacking out the frame/engine).

As for the changes to the 2007 model, here's what they fiddled with:
-FI mapping
-front cowling/windscreen
-seat design
-swing arm
-four-piston monoblock brake calipers for the front brake.
-passenger pegs

Price for a newer one usually ranges from $4,500-$6,000 depending on mileage, condition, and year (at least for my area on Craigslist). Got my '07 with 2,700 miles for $5,600 OTD.

I think most would agree that the instrument cluster is improved on the 07 model, too. The 07+ has an analog tach, rather than a digital impression of an analog tach on the 06, that seems a little harder to quickly read.

Thanks for all the info guys, Good to hear its not much of the difference on the street, I know the R6 would be all better on the track but I don't really care about that.

I would love to get another R6 but the price is a little to high right now and my wife loves to ride but it just gets to uncomfortable for her, plus My Father in Law has a Harley and they are going to be going to Street Vibrations this year and I would love to go with them. since last year I had to go on my truck and the year before that I had to Tow my R6 out there because of the 4 hour drive. Well I think I am going to be going for a 08, 09 model, a ride like this should keep me busy for a couple of years till i get old enough to buy a
VMAX "YEA BABY ":rockon:

Take a look at the FZ6R too if your buying new it's got a new lower fairing like your R6 had styling wise.

I don't worry about my bike being stolen but I do use a Disc lock, steering lock, Cover and anything else to prevent someone from rolling my baby into their greasy bed.

Performance wise, the FZ6 is a lot closer to the R6 than the FZ6R- The "R" has quite a few down-graded parts and a lot less HP. It'd be worth it to get the FZ6 and then shell out the extra dough to get the side cowlings or just a belly pan if the styling is that big of a factor.

My wife says that her back gets a little tight after about 2 hours... Note she is incredibly uncooperative... But she says she gets sleepy back there that its kind of relaxing... The under seat pipes maybe...

I have a big Givi on the back... She doesnt lean but she says it makes it more comfortable (probably becasue she doesnt have to hold her ginormous bag)

Hi, a lot of your questions have been answered I think, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents!

I have ridden the R6 recently (an '08), and also just bought the FZ6 over it! The R6 is quite cramped compared to the FZ6. And I planed on riding a lot, as well as commuting to work so comfort was a big factor. The R6 was a lot of fun to ride, and would be good for short rides, or even a day ride (if taking enough brakes!), and also sounds awesome! The FZ6 ... well after riding a few bikes like the R6 and Gixxers, it sounds kinda lame. The sound doesn't match the feel of the bike if that makes sense. It feels fast, but sounds lame. That's why I'm getting a 2 brothers exhaust soon. A few other cheaper parts and she'll have over 100 hp

Off the line, the FZ6 is no slouch. I don't know the time difference, but it will be quite similar to the R6. After 8-9000 RPM she really moves. My buddy on a ninja 650R twin has me until second gear, as I blow past.

Insurance...it would be the same for me as they are similar in price, and we go by displacement here in BC and I think it's different in Cali.

hey guys, i'm new here too. just got my fz6 saturday. if i may join in on this noob question thread, i have a few.

1. stock seat has to go, what are best replacement seats for comfort. i may have to use a cusion, but i hate cushions.

2. i could use a manual..i don't know what all to check and at what periods(i'm not a noob to mechanics, just to this bike.)

3. im 5'7 and i cannot touch flat footed, i would like it lowered some, best product to use to do that.
4.i hate to ask oil question as im used to how horrible this subject is as i have gone through the same thing with my suzuki c90. my bike is at 5k miles, and i do not know it's history. the oil looks good in it though. i use rotella 5w-40 in my c90, it's 19 bucks a gallon and works great with my c90..
5. is changing the sprocket to reduce rpm's a good idea on this bike? im not a racer, and will be using it for commuting to work, pleasure riding. turning 4k at 55 si get that lovely power roar adn i thought i might get better mpg if i could drop the rpm some.
