HID projector on my FZ6N - Complete!

I wanted to start my own thread, instead of continue the other one started by Jedi.

Anyway, I got this HID and projector set for free from a dealer in Norway in exchange for the idea, (thanks guys, as this is a product of reading posts on here:thumbup pictures and the risk of possibly damaging my headlamp. This isn't something this particular dealer has in stock, but they might start importing it. It's the exact same projector unit as others on here have mounted on their faired FZ6.

The naked FZ6 has a stock H4 bulb, so I got one projector that fits that. At first, I was worried that the projector itself was too big for the fairly shallow headlamp, but the clearance between the projector and the lens cover is roughly 2 mm when it's installed.

So, what did I do to make everything work? First of all, I had to extend the wires. I noticed right away that the ballast and the connection box wouldn't fit anywhere near the headlamp. I realized that I had to put that stuff under the saddle.

Except for the wiring work, this isn't really a big deal. Put the lamp in the oven for 20 minutes at just below 100 degrees C, and the lens cover pops off rather easy. After that, you just follow the instructions that come with the projector unit.

Here are some pictures taken with my phone, but I still haven't got any that shows the beam pattern. I will do that later. Here you get the idea of how it looks on the bike, how the wiring is and how the clearance is:thumbup:

For the sticker? Hair Dryer... heat it up good and hot then it will peel right off. Some WD40 after it cools a bit will remove the gunk, then wash and wax!

Hairdryer ... but still those stickers are a pain in the ass to get off if they bike is a few years old.

Be very careful extending those high-voltage wires- the ones from the ballast to the bulb. Be sure you stagger your splices at least an inch or two apart from eachother and wrap each individual wire very well with electrical tape to keep them a little apart from each other. Those high voltage wires spike up to 20,000+ volts when igniting the bulb. If your splices are too close together with not enough insulation between them, it will arc right through the insulation, probably make a pretty spark show under your seat, and kill a lot of your electrical system.

I got an original extention wire that is sold seprarately from the supplier. In other words, I didn't do that particular wire myself:thumbup: But the rest of the wire jungle is my work.

I skipped connecting the angel eye as I find it to be kinda tacky. That's a BMW thing, and should therefore only be on BMW's. But that's just me. Instead, I will buy a xenon-look bulb (a bluish bulb) that will complement the blue xenon light. Besides, the driving light will allways be on, and I figure the halo won't be that visible anyway

One of the largest supplier of after marked xenon lightning here in Norway might start importing it under their own brand as a result of me giving them the idea That's also why I got it for free.

i have no idea on the model hence why i asked and yes i know u got it for free

do u know the measurements at all so i could maybe search the wreckers her in aus for one

If I understood you correctly, it's not from any car or bike. It's made in China, and it's made to fit H7, H4, H1 and probably other bulb type reflectors too.

Sadly, I've glued the lens cover back on and I didn't measure the projector size... Check out Gozilla's and Boneman's threads, and you can at least see who supplies the goods:thumbup:

Thanks, but the write up itself isn't that great IMO. I was too busy for any picture taking, but this is a fairly intuitive project But I'm happy that I could help, though!

My main concern was in fact whether or not the lamp was deep enough, and how I was supposed to position the ballast and controller box. Another issue is also the limited space you have behind the headlamp, but again; use your imagination and try to give the wires and cables enough room. I managed it, and so will anyone else:thumbup:

Later today, I will go out for a ride and try taking some pictures of the beam pattern. It's raining today, but I hope it will stop for a while... Oh, and I bought LED parking bulbs today also to complement my new HID
