Where do you pass

That includes even a broken yellow line. I dont give a rats *** what the traffic nannies think.
They put passing zones that can get you killed, and put no passing zones that are easily good areas to pass in.

More than cars oncoming, I look for hiding spots where someone can turn in. Oncoming is easy to see, they 78 buick that just pops out of driveway is the bad news. LOL

good idea, basically i just use my own common sense (which isn't so common anymore)
the best (worst) part is the 93 year old lady in the buick can't see you over that school bus steering wheel!
 
I'm not a traffic nannie but i will only pass in designated passing zones unless i feel in danger for being behind someone. I am somewhat of a ticket magnet.
 
I hope I didnt come across wrong. I am talking about the people who design the passing zones. If you dont want to pass you sure dont have to.
 
i don;t think you came off wrong, I hate traffic nannies that drive 3 under the limit and get pissy about anyone passing anytime...
 
I am one of those drivers everyone hates. In a car I always come to a complete stop at stop signs, and never speed in town. On the freeway I will drive my car 5 miles per hour over the speed limit. If the traffic is generally moving faster or slower than the limit, then I will match the traffics speed. Now, on the motorcycle I do the same except when it comes to the freeway. I usually keep my speed a little faster than most of the traffic. My FZ6 has just gone beyond the break-in mileage but I haven't yet opened it up. I will probably go out on some deserted highway in west Texas and pop it up over 100 mph. Now, how much over will determine the road conditions. I have to admit that I did once, in traffic, take the bike up to the max rpm break-in limit. I think it was 90 something mph. Oh, I do try to stay out of other peoples way when obeying the traffic laws (especially speed limit).
 
I use the passing zones as a guide line and use them more than anything. However, there have been times that I have been stuck behind people with no passing zone and they are just going so slow that it makes corning tough, so in which case I will pass as soon as I get a clear hole. I am very cautious with this, so sometime it takes a while, lol.

Thats normal. Nobody minds that at all.
I dont know about anyone else, but I stop where I am supposed to, I do about 5-7 over in the truck. If you are predictable you are a good driver. The ones I have a problem with are doing 40 in the left lane of a road everyone runs 60 on. Its aberation that is dangerous when driving or riding. Be predictable and its all fine, do strange things and get people killed.
 
on our local backroads, which is rolling farm country if i can see up the road far enough i dont hesitate to pass over a double yellow. if i didnt a 5 hour ride would take 15 hours. i try to always wave as i go by to show im not being beligerent. but it never fails, they immediately hop on the cell phone and call the cops....who cant do anything but lecture u cause they didnt see anything. although ive had very unscrupulous ones that did give a ticket, but of course it was thrown out in court.

Or due to the fact that she is clinically blind (not so lol)

I pass when ever I feel it is safe, good point about hidden drive ways. The only time I am more cautious is if im on a run on unfamiliar roads. I don't know about the US or Canada. In the UK if you show yourself to the car with out being agressive they will, 8 times out of ten move over to give you space. I also wave to the drivers who let me by. In the UK we don't have no passing zones persay, we have a double white line (unbroken) the law states that you can not go over the line (so technically no overtaking) but if thr cars move, or if they don't you can squeeze by.

There are cities in Texas where if you use your turn signal to indicate you are going to change lanes, the other drivers just consider it a weakness and take advantage by blocking you!!:rant:
In the smaller towns most people are courteous and will give you space.:Flash:

Maybe you should indicate the way you do not want to go or better put your hazards on this should confuse them.
 
ill pass wherever i see its safe as long as im not breaking a law (ie im not passing over double solid lines, here in Australia, white solid double lines = no)

i ride the speed limit in all residential roads and if traffic is heavy

i did however get a ticket end of last year for slipping into the emergency lane while overtaking

i was overtaking a truck within his lane on his outside and he just moved a tad which meant i overcompensated and passed into the emergency stopping lane

i have passed that way many times before and a few times since and just the one and only time i went into the wrong spot, on come the flashing lights from behind me

in the end the cop was a nice guy and just doing the right thing when i wasnt, cheap lesson in the end :)
 
I'll pass when safe. If I am in a residential zone then I will just cruise behind. Don't want to hit a kid. On the open road I'll pass when and where I feel the need.:thumbup:
