Meter 'Select' Switch Failure

Folks,

I'm trying to avoid buying a complete new meter and would love any thoughts or input.

My 'select' button rubber wore a small hole in it that I didn't notice and of course I washed it. The next time I turned the bike on the switch failed changing my MPH display to KM and making the switch further inoperable. I've removed and taken apart the meter and the switch connector has some decent corrosion in it. I'm using some electrical cleaner and some light scraping to possibly recover it but I'm not optimistic.

Any thoughts and advice for a new guy on the forum would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a picture of the switch? You can probably get a new one from mouser.com or digi-key.com and solder it onto the board. The trick is finding the part so that you can order it.

Hope you get this and thanks for the tip. If I did this right the picture is attached the pic with SW1, the right of the two push buttons. I'll do some searching and appreciate the help.
 
Post a pic of the backside as well please. Is it a "surface mount" or a "thru-hole mount" switch? I am certain you can find a replacement and rework the PCB for just a few $. If you can't pull a part number off the switch, you can measure the contact (pad/pin) spacing and the diameter of the switch and match up something similar. Radio shack might even have that switch in stock.

Let us know if you have any questions on the rework process, you'll def. want to use low-wattage iron (temp controlled if possible) to prevent PCB damage.
 
Pic is attached of the backside. Not a professional on this but looks like a through hole mount.

Dimensions from a ruler...don't have a caliper
Pin spacing: 5 mm
Switch Height: 8 mm
Switch Diameter: 6 mm

I'll be looking as I get the time. I'll probably take it to a local stereo repairman that should have some skills for this. A couple of bucs for the part and maybe a quick minute for labor as I don't have tool for it, nor the regular need to buy one at this point.

For reference the resistance on the good switch is 18 ohms (200k) and the bad is around 2 ohms. I put some WD40 to break up some of the corrosion and the resistance went up but after using some electrical cleaner to clean it out it went back to the 2 ohms. Still trying to do what I can but that is probably the extent of that effort.

there is also a 9.5mm H which I believe is shown in fig 9.

Stereo shop should be able to quicky make the repair (and they might even have a part that will work), or you can use a low-wattage iron, some pcb safe flux, and some de-soldering braid to remove the old one.
