Smog the FZ6? Geesh.

CA legislators---because they have nothing better to do, are going to vote this week on requiring all motorcycles 2000 and up be mandated to undergo SMOG tests as a requirement for registration renewal. This is yet, another, bonehead move by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to impose, IMHO, excessive smog restrictions. An example of this----talk to my brother---was making a RETROACTIVE law requiring owners of a 1977 vehicle to now (previously exempt) have to undergo SMOG tests. How many 1977'ish vehicles are there on the road? OMG! CARB was also the one that mandated the now infamous MTBE additive that subsequently poisoned 1,000's of wells and resulted in LESS MPG's.

It is a PITA but the FZ will pass with no issues at all, it is a very clean bike, unless you've gutted the CATs.

on a bright note: I went up to Monterey the past two weekends in a row - such nice air up there!

The only problem with the stock pipes is they are so quiet people cant hear you. Thats why alot of people buy the loud pipes so they can be heard by those cagers blasting music and and being oblivious to the road

Dang, those are some loud pipes if you're hearing them all the way in Maryland!

I've got a mostly stock exhaust on my bike -- the mid pipe is the only thing I've changed. While I appreciate the notion of breathing fresh air, I don't like the way that you get hit with more and more fees to manage this kind of thing.

I understand that the state is essentially doubling registration fees already. And I recently got that bloody mobile phone citation, the one for which the fine is supposed to be $20. The thing was $138.00! And there was absolutely no articulation nor explanation of what the extra amount was for or where it's going. Double frack...

Maybe this is because everybody has been gutting their catalytic converters and disabling their air injection systems in an attempt to gain .0001 hp?

Please don't start that "loud pipes save lives" nonsense. They point back wards making them difficult to locate and just startle\piss off people if they even hear them. People only really hear them when you are next to, or passing their cars. Want drivers to be more aware of your presence? White or yellow helmet, headlight modulator and lane position. Loud pipes are just a vanity.

I'm all for responsible emmision control, but this is just stupid. The emmisions from my lawn mower are far worse than those from my cars and bike combined!
