ATVs are street-legal...

... in my hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota USA.

I flew home last week to see my only nephew graduate from high school. Was quite surprised to see ATVs running around all over the place on city streets; I do a lot of travelling and don't think I've seen that anywhere else. Only saw one helmet the entire four days, on a motorcyclist or ATVer... :spank:

some places you can convert an atv over to be street legal.... Not lucky enough here in NY

pretty sure that you can get an ATV Street legal here too. Just needs to be 50cc+, have all lights and turn signals function and then you can register it as some sort of motorcycle or dune buggy or something...
 
I have a buddy who put an R6 motor in his Yammy quad...custom frame. He says hes gonna make it street legal for the summer. I'll post pics when/if it happens....:D
 
I would love for them to make quads legal for road use Nationwide. That would push me to deffinately buy another but in most states you can not and the titles say clearly "off-road use only".

now THAT sounds FUN!!! I would love to have the time and energy to make a 90 MPH quad!!!

This would be a sure fire way to address the overpopulation issue...

The number of ATV fatalities is already pretty high. Put the same demographic out on the roads with other people on the same machines and given a "better" excuse to go fast...

I think it should be legal in small towns for farm use. Must have the slow moving triangle thing and such at the ATV can be considered a farm tool.

But that is as far I feel it should go. Just my .02

yea.. go visit new haven ct and you'll change your mind about making them street legal... good idea, bad implications... they have people anywhere from 14-40 running quads on the streets and tearing it up... very bad idea to make them street legal imo... but i agree with the fact that it would keep the population levels down...

Problem with that is not the ATV's but the idiots using them. ATV's much like motorcycles have come a long way in technology the last few years and too many people don't treat them with the proper respect. Generally treating them like toys and/or drinking while riding. As statistics go though in 2006 there were only about 550 ATV related deaths and over 4500 motorcycle related.....maybe we should keep motorcycles off the road too???? And they're not neccesarily all "Slow Moving" even the modern utility quads will do over 50mph while the sport version will do in excess of 60 off the showroom floor.

“The vast majority of ATV-related accidents and fatalities involve behaviors that the ATV industry warns against in its rider education programs, in all its literature, and on vehicle labels,” according to an SVIA statement. “In fact, an analysis of ATV fatalities during 1997-2002 showed that 92 percent of the fatalities were associated with one or more of these warned against behaviors.”

Over 100 of the fatalities as well are children that had no business on adult ATV's to begin with.

It's all boils down to education and proper liscensing....It should be no different than motorcycling. Take it from someone who raced them for 10years they are much safer and more controlable than motorcycles when ridden properly. :thumbup:

I wemt to University of new Haven and was in New haven all the time. I dont think I saw a quad once while I was there. Is it only during the summer?

maybe.. i never saw to many in the winter.. but im specifically talking about the west side of new haven.. over by the aprilia/suzuki dealership.. i would always see a whole bunch ripping it up on the street..

Is that over near Yale?. Cause UNH is actually in West haven but iwas always near the train station over there
 
maybe you just missed it... but i have seen many durring the summer.. actually its funny, if you read the new haven register.. every now and then you'll see an arrest from someone driving it on the street...
