Air Evac Lifeteam

For 55$ a year I became a member of lifeteam airevac. If I or Trinity are envolved in a life threating, or limb threating accident, or just have a medical emergency, they will fly us to the nearest hospitol with proper facilities, for no charge to me.

It costs 55$ a year. We ride bikes. Bike wrecks can be horrible. I think its sorta like a wearing a helmet, and gear. A great thing to have, hope I never need it, but what if I do?????

so when ur laying on the ground in the middle of a massive traffic jam having just took a nasty limb-shredding spill, you have to call your local rep?

how does this work?

Not a bad deal. I had to have a life flight helicopter land in my back yard to take a friend of my parents to the ER. It like $25,000.

Pardon my ignorance, and I hope to never have to find out, but will regular health insurance not cover at least some of the cost of an airvac?

I'm not sure how the EMT addendants would know you are part of the program. When you are seriously f-ed up, there isn't enough time to find your wallet and go through all the **** you have in there to see if you might be one of the very few with this card.
Only thing, is if you have a bracelet similar to a medicalert, then the EMTs will notice as that is one thing we do a very quick check of.
And sometimes, the "choppa" isn't the best option depending on your location of the incident. If you are seriously messed up, and the EMTs say you need it, then they will call it for you. In that case, I guess the program works, as you would still get the flight but you just end up not receiving the bill once you show your special little membership... God I love being Canadian, I don't need to worry about this!

AirEvac is called out no matter what. If you have or havent paid.

Here is the thing. In a bad crash by the time you get to the hospital with life flight your bike insurance is used up. This is just a added layer of protection.

Say the hospital bill and life flight bill is 75,000$ the guy that hit you is drunk, and with no insurance.

Your policy only covers 50,000$ you dont get any bill from lifelight at all.

No priority is made to lifeflight members over non members. Its just that if you need it, you dont have to pay for it.

With out it if you need it, the bill is 20-30,000$

The odds are really slim that you will ever use it. Then again when you get on a bike the odds that you will need it go up.

seems like a good idea, shame you have to cover you own cost tho..i love our NHS even if it is flawed

Great idea Steve, it gives you a great peace of mind for you and Trin, if anything should happen.

That's true but one of the flaws of the NHS is that it doesn't always fund air ambulances, one of the better known charities is the Yorkshire air ambulance. I know that many bikers in the yorkshire area raise funds for this charity, as many accidents occur in remote parts, where ambulances can't get to that quickly.
