So trying to keep up with the economy, me and the wife have been trying to grocery shop less, just trying to stretch things out longer... well when i went looking through the cabinets for something to eat for lunch today, all i could find was 2 boxes of mac and cheese, and a half a bag of fish sticks.. (good lunch!)

by the time i was done this simple meal, i realized i didnt have milk for the mac and cheese, i didnt have ketchup for the fishsticks, and i didnt have anything to drink other than water . bummer... i guess its time to stop playing with the bike and actually do something grown up like grocery shop.. hehe

My first time in college we made mac & cheese without milk so it can be done, just not as creamy. Anytime anyone went out to eat they brought back all the condiments they could. I ate a LOT of ramen noodles with crackers and mustard. I hated eating on a budget.

i know, it wasnt until i was done cookin that i realized when i added the milk... there is none.. oh well... wait... no ketchup either... and i HAVE TO DRINK WATER?! haha... had i know that i would have grabbed arbys!

I was going to suggest Top Ramen too!

Sometimes I buy the beef flavor and then instead of having it like a soup, I dump it into a strainer (colander) and put ranch on it. :scared: :D

There are alot of cheap dinners/lunches.

spaghetti, sandwiches, chili, chicken/steak fajitas....etc.

vianna sausages and crackers are a good lunch, ramen noodles, hotpockets, Taco Bell (Chicken Burrito, Taco, Cheesy Double Beef Burrito = 3.03 after tax), Chili, Soup, Chef Boyardee. I have a combination of these for lunch every week. Also, if I get lucky, Leftovers. I try to spend 15.00 dollars or less a week in lunch as far as eating out.

Lunch is just so you can make it to dinner.

Dude, mac n' cheese and fish sticks. That is what I call ballin on a budget. As far as the ketchup goes....mix some mayo and relish for some tartar sauce and you are good to go. Me? I eat sammiches daily.

I used to do the Top Ramen thing too. I liked grill chicken, cut it into strips and add that and carrots and celery to the noodles. Tasted good, is inexpensive and stuck to my ribs longer.

I still do the PBJ thing too.

You cannot complain about cheap food until you've had a bowl of ONION SOUP. You take some onions, slice them thinly, cook them in a pan until browned and reduce them with water.

Onion soup.

That is good stuff. Make some toast, cut it up for crutons, and if you have it add some cheese.....mmmmmmmm!!!!!!!

I am a bachelor, eat for roughly $100 a month (doesn't get you much in Canada). I am figuring out how to make good tasting, but quick and easy meals that are easy to clean up after lol.
Cook everything on a hot plate, toaster oven or a forman grill.
Love Mac and Cheese (good thing!) but deffinately need the ketchup for it!
I could spend more, but why? that's just less money for mods and trips and racing!

write a book on that...label it "College Cooking for under $100 a month" and you'll be rich and eating steaks forever....
