I think my dad's house is haunted

So, I ended up moving in with my dad  ....... and this morning I was taking a shower (keep in mind Danny's at work, my dad's a work and the kids are in school) and I hear someone say my name! It was only said once, but it was so distinct! It was NOT my dad's voice and it sounded like "they" were right outside the bathroom door. I told Danny about it and he said,"ya know, it's funny you say that....the other day I was upstairs and I heard my name and I thought it was you" (it wasn't me).

I grew up in this house and when I was about 12, my parents were at work and my brothers were at baseball/football practice. I had to fold everybody's clothes, and I walk downstairs to take clothes to my brother's room, as soon as I get to the end of the hall, entering the gameroom, I see my brother's light turn on.....there was NOBODY home!!! It really freaked me out.....I ran upstairs and just sat on the couch crying!

It's a very unusual house.....when you walk in the front door, you're upstairs and there's three levels to the house....all the bedrooms are in the basement, and everynight when I would get in bed, I would hear footsteps upstairs. I told Danny about it years later and he never believed me until he heard it. It sounded like someone was wearing cowboy boots (shoes are not allowed to be worn in the house)....Danny runs upstairs and as soon as he gets to the top step, the footsteps stopped. My dad has this life-size Porcelin (sp) Indian that has cowboy boots on and Danny swears it's the Indian walking around haha. I've also heard a story about this house, before my parents bought it 30 something years ago.....a man supposedly killed his wife and buried her in the back yard.

Anyways.....It was just kinda weird.....I used to hear someone say my name alot, but it hasn't happened in over 10 years. Some may or may not believe in this kind of stuff....I do, but if you don't...it was entertaining, right?

Dude, that is some weird -ish. I sometimes hear someone say my name but I've read that it's normal to hear that once in a while - it's your subconscious thinking out loud or something, and it makes its way into your conscious mind.

The light switch thing I have had happen w/ switches that kind of stick, and don't switch all the way off. They can suddenly un-stick due to all kinds of reasons like changes in humidity, and turn on or off.

I personally don't believe in ghosts and the like, but you have to wonder when otherwise normal, rational people report stuff like this. I was on our weekly sales call and our Detroit rep reported an incident when he recently (since Christmas) stayed in a hotel in Chicago, where he awoke in the middle of the night to see someone like hovering over him! He got out of bed and this thing stood on the ground and walked into a wall. Dude shared this with our entire sales team - he found out later that the hotel is allegedly haunted.

I do hear someone say my name from time to time, but it's happened in various places and at various times, and I've always recognized it to have been generated internally somehow, like a guy-level feeling.

Very spooky my friend. I advise not thinking about it, and see if it happens more. Subscribing to this thread ...

EDIT: OR: what Wavex said!!! :D

Sounds like you guys are getting some good ****! :smoking:

:D:cheer:
lol....shut up, David! :spank: (want some?)

Just saw your edit....screw both of you! LOL

I'm not the only one who has heard/seen things in this house. My dad heard voices (ok, that doesn't sound good, but you know what I mean), my brother has seen things in his room. I've tried to justify everything, but it just doesn't make sense. Oh well...just wanted to share.....figured I hadn't posted a useless thread in a long time! :D

Your story gave me the chills! That is creepy!!! :scared: I'm a big believer in that kind of stuff.

LOL @ the :smoking: comment.
The unexplainable sounds and noises do sound spooky. Ouija board time or do you not believe in that stuff?

My ex gf lived in a 120 year old house out in the boones (country).
She never told me she used to have odd experiences there, she thought I would think she was loopy lol.
I had a dream about some older lady, wearing clothes from early 1900s or 1890s and there was a black cat involved. I told the ex a few weeks after and she started to cry and she proceeded to tell me about all the things that had gone on in the house, like her name being called and the mean old lady she would see from her room and in the mirror at night. and she had the same dreams, including the cat!
A few weeks after that, it was the 2 of us alone in the house, wich has the original house, an addition from the 50s and an addition from the 90s. The newer portions there was nothing weird, but in the old part, I got the chills for some unknown reason. at the top of the stairs I felt really stressed out, didn't know why. The gf wouldn't leave the new part of the house that night and wouldnt' tell me why. I had to go to the old part of the house to get her solution for contacts and I felt like something was yelling and pissed at me but I didn't hear anything, but I could sense it. The second time I went up the stairs I actually talked out loud to it, calling it out because I wasn't scared (but I sure was lol) and I got this image, of the old lady at the top of the stairs and she was right pissed I was there, I felt like she wanted to push me down the stairs.
I told the gf what I felt, and she said that is why she won't leave the new part of the house because the lady was acting up... Creepy.
After we broke up, her new guy didn't know any of this, and heard his name called from the top of the stairs, and nobody else was around, it was a female voice!
Her mom confirmed she feels it's haunted too and told us about the same old lady, but the lady was actually in her room some nights since it's the master bedroom.
Now, I'm a rational guy, not crazy religious and I don't scare easy, never been afraid of the dark and I have no issues being in the bush at night alone with no lights, so for me to get freaked and be irrational, there was deffinately something going on!

Well toss me in the crazy pile or not but here goes.

Ok one day a friend of mine and I pulled behind the old abandoned house from the era right after after the civil war. We were going to smoke some pot. This was in highschool. We were not high yet had just started to roll it up. I get this creepy feeling and look over my right shoulder. I see a almost see thru old man standing next to a tree and feel like he is very malovalent towards us. At the same time he starts the 280z and goes flying backwards out of the place where we are. We never said a word. We after getting the hell out of there compared stories. We both saw the same thing, we both felt the same thing. It still to this day 20 years later freaks me out. That house finally collapsed a few years ago and what was left was demolished.

For what its worth I do believe there is something more to us than just flesh and blood. Scary movies dont bother me but thinking about that day raises gooseflesh all over my body, and makes me feel really uncomfortable right now.

I never discount anything like this I have heard and felt to many strange things . I have always had an open mind about it. What I would do is by a cheap digital recorder and place it around where you think the sounds are coming from and leave it running for a couple hours at night . Go back and listen to it later sometimes you will catch something unexpected .

I was reading Bram Stoker's Dracula for the first time while staying in a +200 year old hotel in the Carpathions in Romania. The hotel was a mile or so up the mountain on a dirt road from the nearby village. Walking back each night through the woods with dense fog...I heard a lot of stuff. Felt like I was IN the book! The stories you've all shared are some crazy stuff!

When I was very little (about 3-4) my mom stuck a video camera into my room through a cracked open door. She video'd me having a full conversation with a person who wasn't there, and you couldn't hear on the audio. She then asked me who I was talking to. I replied, "The nice old man" We can't find the videos anymore, but my dad video'd my sister having a convo similar to the one I had roughly 3 years earlier. My mom and dad sat her down and asked what she was doing... She replied "I's playin' wiff da man" What man (sister's name)? "The old man who watches me as I go to sleep" I swear with a hand on the bible my parents swear we both described the guy the same way, similar times during the conversations (about 6 or 7pm), and we both really talked about how nice he was and how fun he was to play with!!! I don't remember the convos I had, but I do remember less than a year ago playing pool in my basement, look over my shoulder because something catches my eye, it's my grandpa clear as day standing in the doorway to the laundry room... I had a vapor trail behind my butt I flew up the stairs so fast... Oh yeah, he died in 96 or 97...
I'm not making fun, I'm stone cold serious. I've never been high or drunk. There are other stories about the push a button make a noise read along books, lights in the house, cd players playing random tracks (yes like christine) and The PIECE DE LA RESISTANCE (never took french but know the saying... I felt someone catch my foot and support my weight when I was 10 or so and it saved me from falling down a wooden staircase which would have F'd me up... I definitely know where you're coming from.

Thanks all, now I'm gonna have nightmares! Freaky stories....had goosebumps the whole time I was reading.

I am terrified of the dark and when I was maybe 14/15 years old, I saw some girl run acrossed the freeway and get hit by a car.....and I slept with my bedroom light on for 2 months. I was already afraid of the dark anyways, but this just put it over the top. Danny always made fun of me because when I met him (at the age of 17), I was still sleeping with a nightlight on. :o

Interesting set of personal experiences some of us have had - gave me goosebumps even though I don't believe in the paranormal myself. I tend to think that there would be more than anectdotes to support it if real.

I've been to two "haunted" places ("haunted" in the sense that they are billed that way to attract tourists). Port Arthur in Tasmania, which was I think the first prison colony in Australia. It was misty and cold and kind of spooky when I was there, but no interesting sightings for me. But I definitely freaked myself out with an overactive imagination. And the Winchest Mystery House (hieress to the Winchester Repeating Rifle Company) in Santa Clara, CA. It was a nice sunny day when I was there, and had no sense of anything ususual except the architecture.

Interestingly we did the same thing with my god son and he sat there talking to the man , we also used to hear footsteps down the hall and then the back screen door would physically open itself......Same time every weeknight , so im guessing the man would talk to my God son and then leave for work or the likes.....The paranormal is undeniably real :) , just unfortunate some peolpe are yet to experience it :(.........

Have you given any thoughts to setting up a camera where the footsteps are heard ???? Would make an awesome thread :D....Im fasinated with the paranormal ever since i saw a photo of my Buddy and his Grandfather , even though he'd passed away before my mate was born ....

I'm the agnostic kind of dude, in other words I don't believe in much. No religion, no paranormal stuff nor UFO's and the like. I do, however, believe mostly in empirical evidence.

I say mostly as the following theory isn't empirically documented in any way; I do belive that our brains have a lot more to say than we think. Remember, the brain controls ALL our body functions in some way. Either directly or indirectly. I have a strong confidence in the brain's ability to heal the body it's attached to if sick, and I believe that willpower itself can have a powerful impact.

In the same way, our brains can also confuse us. It can have random short-outs, and thus give us hallusinations and produce other strange stuff that we will perceive either visually or sonic. The brain also has the ability to produce fake memories, in other words life like memories as a product of other people's third-hand stories.

The main evidence that proves there's no such thing as ghosts, is that no one has taken a photograph or video capture of a single ghost to this date. At least not fake, that is... And as time goes by, there should be even more ghosts to choose from as more and more people die...
