fz6 off-road

anyone ever take their fz6 proper off roading? Knobbly tires the lot? or similar

if you do what was it like? any pics? hehe

well.. on more than one occasion i have accidently decided to do the dirt road thing and then went to far to turn around.. i have been on hard packed dirt with a few ruts and wash-outs.. very simple to drive on.. put a little more presure on your feet (to get your but of the seat some) and just go slow and strait and you'll be fine..

i have also had the pleasure of driving down a loose grave road that they had just ripped up and we about to pave again.. that was a nightmare.. jagged rocks, no sability.. the 6 was a champ though.. only i was going no more than 10mph and pretty much had my butt off the seat the whole way.. no leaning to turn what so ever..

i dunno if anyone has done knobby tires.. would be interested to hear what the experience was with them...

I would not be comfortable riding off road on the Fizzer. I have rode enduro types in the past and I think that the Fz6 footprint is not really set up for off road. But in a pinch, it would handle it.GRUMPY

If you enjoy enduro type riding, you should consider adding a WR450F/250F to your paddock. Dropping a FZ6 in the dirt could prove to be quite costly.

In addition to my FZ6, I own a WR450F. I purchased an additional set of excel rims and fitted supermotard tires.

I often use the 450F on the street, to nip down to the local grocer, and when I feel like playing in the back yard I fit the knobblies and hit the dirt.

The traffic laws in Africa are not as enforceable as the States, so as long as the bike is registered and kind of roadworthy the cops don’t bother you.

I don't like taking my bike down dirt roads but I have. There is a road not far from me called "Jungle Trail". It's about eight miles of dirt road and I really was impressed with the way the bike handled. It felt really gripped up in the loose Florida "sand". All stock, no knobbies.

Have to go through some kinda rough stuff to store it... I can say one thing. Stock street tires+steep uphill gradient+washed out roots exposed+narrow opening to steer through +dirt turning to mud= picking your bike up... Only a few mph, so nothing got messed up... TAKE IT SLOW!!! Shortly afterward I got the sliders...

i have owned my bike sin sept 05 and still havent put on frame sliders.. even though its dropped once (on the front lawn so like next to no damage, minor scuff to the engine cover, minor scuff on the mirror and rear signal - cant even tell it dropped x-cept for the engine cover).. probably should buy a set, but what can you do..

I used to have a picture of a guy that put knobbies on a new model R6...it was lightning fast and hard to handle.

i really wish i could afford a 450 but still paying for the fazer lol.

main reason i was asking is i am considering taking the fz6 2up on a trip through russia, kazakhstan and mongolia in a year or 2 and was wondering how it might perform on the looser stuff. Would be a definite shame to bin a new bike tho so not too sure yet hehe
