Low is -1C/30F here at the mo so still fine to ride. I made the mistake on Tuesday of leaving the bike at home as snow was predicted and tripled my journey length by taking the car while all the bikers zoomed passed me making me jealous. Safe to say I was back on the bike on Wednesday.

..never snows in Bangkok! 30C+ most of the year. I'm lucky, I can wear out a set of tires while you fellows are riding your snowmobiles.

it's small consolation, but if it makes you feel better, they are predicting up to 4 inches of ICE accumulation for us over the next 24-36 hours. Talk about horrible weather!

Karma time.... well, here I am near Houston/Galveston, TX, ready to reply to this post and laugh at all of you in the snow. You know, something like, "I wore the mesh jacket & pants on my commute Tuesday- without the liners, and was a bit too warm", when it started snowing last night! First time in over 4 yrs! Anyway, things are a mess today- I have been turned around by the police at the big suspension bridge twice this morning while trying to get to work, due to ice way up on the span. Sure, it is nothing that a little salt wouldn't fix (it is only 30-34F), but nobody has any salt! Only sand & gravel, which doesn't do a thing but cause flat tires for my bicycle over the next few weeks. Hey, couldn't they just run a line to the ship channel and pump brine onto the bridge?:don'tknow:

BTW: this will all clear up in time for the big motorcycle rally on Galveston Island this weekend. Then I'll send some posts about how nice the weather is! :thumbup:

Well, here in MS, it's been raining. So I gear up and ride anyway. I've been here for a year now and the only thing that I have to complain about are that the roads are not built with a crown. They are dead flat or worse. The rain does not run off well. I'm used to the roads in Ohio. They're four inches higher in the center to help clear them off. Down here there's a rut just right of the center line that hold water like a small creek, that makes life REAL interesting when it rains. And being on the Gulf of Mexico, that's a lot of rain! However, I've been riding every day, rain or shine. I just gear up and go. You learn to live with it! GRUMPY BTW, in '06 I rode 363 out of 365 on my GS1100, I missed the two days when a storm came through that they did not get the roads clear enough to ride.

Believe me.... You really don't want salt... it will melt ice AND anything metal it gets on (including your bike) - and it is really messy for weeks after. They pour salt on the roads up here, excessivly IMO, so I am envious of someplace where it snows a little, with NO salt - I could handle that.

yeah, we are salted way more than we should be right now. 182 schools have closed because of the weather (including my college, so no class tonight - woo!!), even the salt can't keep up.

fwiw, don't buy any cars from new england unless you're willing to deal with salt rot. we always try tog et southern cars

hey, i'm close to milwaukee. got lots of snow here too. it might hit 40 by the weekend though. ooooo...a thaw?? most likely not. I'm ready for spring!!!!

That would be amazing.... its only supposed to be about 35 here so no major meltdown here. I guess ill have to go ice fishing instead

My grandparents, Mothers side, live in Beaver Dam, WI. Last I talked to them they were covered in snow.

I went up there for christmas one year, that was cold. It was like -32F wind chill. I stayed inside.

Yeah its terrible weather here. Its not bad now but i heard 40 MPH winds tomorrow with some cold later on!!!!

The summers up there are nice though. I used to spend my summers up there from about 3rd grade through middle school. They had a dairy farm at the time, helped out with the morning and evening chores as well as the field work. Its was alot of fun. As I got older I was able to do more as far as the machinery was concerned. They sold the farm about 4 years ago or so. Still has all the land, leases most of it. Mentioning snowmobiles, some of the city guys pay to store there snowmobiles in the barn now that it is not in use.
