Just wondering, - since we are spread worldwide, what is that special thing that makes you think: Now its Christmas?

Mine is the food on Christmas evening, here in Denmark its stuff like sugar roasted patatoes, white patatoes, roasted pig, roasted duck, tons of brown thick gravy .....

Family reunions, the whole family & relatives always gather together multiple times in these few days and eat like there will be no tomorrow :D
 
Sitting out by the Pool on Christmas night, at my brothers house, with all my family, eating Prawns & Crayfish, washed down with a cold beer, watching the kids play in the pool...

The best part of Christmas is sitting at my parents house after an 8 hour drive and gabbing with my mom and sister. Everyone else goes to bed and we sit up in our jammies, yawning. It normally lasts til 1-2am. Then the next morning, my dad goes and picks up my other Gramma and brings her home. Then the crazy wildness of Christmas starts..cooking, chasing kids..etc.
 
Everything of what you mentioned but specially the family reunion. I love these holy days with all the weird emotions, the snow falling and the turkey waiting to be eaten. I love XMAS!!!:thumbup::Flash:

The best thing I like about Christmas is spending 45 minutes digging through snow drifts and ice to get to my shed 20 metres away.Then defrosting the ice bound lock to get in to say. "Merry Christmas FZ6, I have some lovely presents for you but you will have to wait until May to get them. Now go back to sleep".

It is at this time of the year I hate all bloody Aussies.

So Merry Christmas you sun tanned bunch of convicts. :thumbup:

Has to be family and friends. My family is spread over quite an area of the UK, and Christmas is more or less the one time that we meet up somewhere along the way. Same for old friends, I moved out of my home town almost 2 decades ago and when any of us do meet up we have plenty to catch up on.

Best thing about after Christmas has to be getting through without my bank account going into the red, something I've managed now for the last 15 years :thumbup: much to my bank's disappointment I guess :D
 
Just for those who do not know.
In Denmark we celebrate christmas on the eve of the 24th and not on the 25th as most people do.
We have our meal with our families and exchange gifts and then we sing and dance around the christmas tree (Literally) and just have a good time together.

Being English, it took me 4 years to get used to the 24th routine but I like it. On christmas morning eveything is done and out of the way and we end up with friends having lunch at someones house and having a long walk in the forest, talking about where our spring biking holiday will be.

Denmark is a great place to be at any time. Even at christmas.

I Agree,- If they would only lower the dam taxes, it would be dam close to perfect :)

Our childrens faces Christmas morning. When they discover that Santa has left foot prints, eaten the cookies, drunk the whiskey and left presents.

Then I love cooking the x-mas dinner for everyone and going to bed stuffed to the gills.

Going to Elland road and watching Leeds united loose again. Actually that's boxing day, but in the last 5 years I missed one match, and yes you guessed it they won :thumbup:

Here in Holland they give the presents on the evening of the 5th of December (St Nicks birthday), Christmas is for celebrating the birth of Jesus in Holland, so we go to England at christmas, that way we can get presents again :thumbup:

Some Dutch families have recently started giving pressies at chrimbo as well.
 
You know what makes MY Christmas?!? Buying gifts for all of my family and watching how excited they get when they open it.......and playing Santa Claus. Giving is much more fun than receiving. :thumbup:
 
Now that the kids are all grown up, the "fun" of Christmas is no longer there. It has become much like a second Thanksgiving Day but to have all of us together for the day is absolutely great!

A lot of the fun will return one day when the kids decide to give us grand children.

What troubles me is how commercialized this holiday has become and how the true meaning has been lost to so many.

I know it isn't really the day Jesus was born but at 12:01 am, every Dec. 25th, before going to sleep, I wish the Lord a Happy Birthday and thank Him.
 
Spending time with the family,eating a awesome xmas dinner cooked by the lovely wife(coz im rubbish at cooking) and having a relaxing week off work :steve:
 
Like Steph said it is the family thing, though I usually am crashed waaaaaaay before she decides to call it a night LOL. It is also the giving, both to the kids and Steph. I get my presents all year long, just take a gander at my mod list:D, and this is my chance to really make sure I spoil the heck out of the rest of the family. That and birthdays LOL (Steph's Fz6 is a b-day present).

Oh yeah and I would be quite remiss if I didnt at least mention my favorite 4-letter word that begins with "F".......... FOOD!!!!:thumbup: Steph's mom and dad put out a spread that is to die for:eek:
