Corbin Materials?

So fiance wants a back rest on the FZ. Corbin seems to be the only option for a back rest. I want a leather seat and I'm wondering what type of leather anyone would suggest. Smooth, textured?

While I don't have one, I know that many owners who bought the smooth as well as the faux carbon fiber material hated them since they were too slippery. Hope that helps!

I've also heard that calling them is a great idea because if you explain all that you are looking for, they are very good at putting together the seat you want the first time. Most say they are exptremely helpful in designing what you want.

The carbon fiber finish leather is very slippery. I have it on mine.

Just dont try to buy one online. Its impossible they will never respond to emails. Its like they just arent interested.

what about a Top case? I have seen a few with a backrest built in and if she is the "girly-girl" you describe, I'm sure she would love somewhere to put her makeup, hand sanitizer, hairbrush, etc.

Oh, no, no, no...I am maddly in love with her, HOWEVER, I will draw the line! Hee, Hee, hee. If it ain't black, ballistic nylon it's not going on the FZ. I simply can't do the hard luggage thing. No offense to anyone who owns it but it is too touring bike for me.

What I need to get her is a small make up kit thing/bag/box. At her house she must have room full of cosmetics, I've never seen that much stuff. I mean my whole life can fit in a large Alice pack! I still have a bunch of cammo sticks, maybe she'd be into that??? Oh, never mind...

She might be hip to that. The new Ninja 250 would be prefect. She is pretty short, maybe a cruiser kinda think would be better? On second thought, no, a ninja.

Okay, just got off the phone with Corbin, super nice people. I ended up getting the carbon fiber pattern in matte, so it is a non-slick surface. We also used vinyl ashphalt for the sides. The back rest is the carbon fiber with the carbon fiber cover.

Now the pricing took me back a couple of steps, $635.00!!! Cough, cough!!! The on line price of $369 is in vinyl with no back rest.

4 to 6 week wait.

Well...it for her toosh so I guess that is okay. :thumbup:

Im actually on the same boat, I got a girlfriend and she doesnt hold on too tight sometimes, scares the crap out of me, so Im going to make her a small backrest, I gotta fabricate a bracket to put on the subframe under the seat and run it up to the rear, still haven't figured it out yet, but should be good, then I'll get me father to cover a small backrest out of neoprene or something to match. I just don't have 600 bucks to spend on a seat...
I would go with the trunk Idea but I personally don't like the look of the Givi boxes on the FZ

Yeah I was really surprised at the final cost. The back rest is $226 alone! But she feels safer with it so that is okay. She's used to riding on Harleys and leaning back. At least she wears all the proper gear now.

I'd love to see what you come up with. I have the same problem with my daughter (15) not holding on tight enough to make me comfortable. I guess Corbin's got a monopoly on the FZ6 backrest market. I'm surprised someone hasn't offered a more reasonable alternative yet. There's got to be a way to put a nice short backrest behind the stock seat without damaging the bike. If you could integrate a small rack behind it, that would be even better!

Here ya go. I am in the process of getting the seat reshaped. The pillion area slopes down too much, even with two people on the bike and the rearend settled. I spoke with Corbin and they will reshape it for free...BUT...they will not put new/different material on the seat for free. So the cost would be about $185 to totally redo the seat...PLUS...$60 in shipping. So I'm just going to have it done locally.
