Just heard from the insurance company. They are offering me $4700 for the bike and want $2100 to keep it (ie: take the bike home + $2600). If anyone is interested in buying the bike off of me for a project, I'd let it go for the $2000 it would cost me to get it back from them. The bike is in perfect working order, only cosmetic damage.

nice deal I`d take it for a project if I didnt have one already :D

so what`s the next bike going to be Rob?:cheer::rockon:

Tough call, Rob. I think you should take it back and repair it. You are about $1000 from complete recovery if you do the work yourself. The remaining $1600 would buy a nice set of riding gear, more mods, stuff for your RSX, etc. $4700 will get you another used FZ6 or 1/2 way towards that Speed Triple.

Well, the price they quoted me was for a stock FZ6. So this does not include all of my aftermarket parts. Given this, I am under the impression from my adjuster than I will still have the opportunity to take all of my aftermarket parts back after they take the bike. So the exhaust, custom projectors with HID, Corbin seat, etc will all be up for auction soon.

This will be bring me very close to my Street Triple.

You`ll be able to get your aftermarket parts only if you can replace them with all the stock parts... and you`ll have to do the work yourself too :) do you still have all of them?

Since I have all of my receipts, they are willing to cover my aftermarket parts that add value to the bike. This includes the Corbin seat and the Exhaust. If anyone who is local wants to swap me a stock seat for the Corbin plus $200, I'll happily accomodate someone who has wanted one.

With AAA insurance, they don't just cut you a check and tell you to fix it. They pay the repair shop directly, so I don't think a naked conversion is an option for me. We'll see though. My deductible is only $250, so that's no big deal. I know the frame and engine are in good shape because the bike is at the dealer and that is what they told me. I'd like to keep the bike, but if the insurance gives me the option, I was curious what you guys think.

(I know this thread/post is old but I am replying anyways)

Damn, most insurance companies will only force you to take it to a shop if you owe money on it.
I own my bike outright and my insurance company wrote me a check and I fixed it myself, along with buying plenty of mods because I didn't have to pay $90/hour for labor.

Yeah, I was kind of happy to just take the check and walk away though. It all worked out in the end, with some teeth pulling.

It's late and I don't have time to read all the posts.

I voted to save the bike because it sounded like it was not really in bad shape.

But with the caviat that the insurance company will pay the "total" price and either let you just keep the bike or sell it back to you for a nominal cost of a couple hundred dollars or less.

I just feel this gives you the most options. If nothing else you can part it out and probably make a couple grand.

The buy back price is not a few hundred, it's a few thousand. This price is based upon what the insurance company can get from a salvage yard for the bike, which will in turn sell it for parts and scrap.

I like new stuff. I would go for the money and buy a street triple. Yummy. Only problem is there's a waiting list in the UK for the street triple. Was 6 months long before xmas, may have dropped off now because of the credit crunch. You may want to check what it is in the US. You wouldn't want to get all excited only to be told you've got to wait....

My local shop has a few on the floor, including a black one and a grey type R.
