Everytime I see it on showroom floor or on the road. Does anyone feel the same? I saw a red 06 today on the interstate and loved it. The fairing looks more in tune with the rest unlike the bulky 04-06 ones and that tail is just hotness with dual brakelights. Even the pre-06 design looks much compact to me.

I think the FZ1 makes more use of "edge" styling than the FZ6, and the stubby exhaust, squat rear end, sharp angled tank, light & front fender, all contibute to it's compact look.....

Awesome bike, just costs too much to insure & register, being in the 1000cc plus insurance, registration bracket in Oz.

I may move up to the FZ1 but I haven't even had my FZ6 one year yet. The threads about FZ1 frames cracking has raised my eyebrows though. Now, the insurance question: I hadn't even considered that. How much more? Does anybody know? I mean, are we talking a lot?

In Australia it's over $1500 a year extra for insurance, and rego for me, and i am 40, with no claims, so my insurance is cheap...plus they use a lot more petrol.....still want one though!

I also think the FZ1 looks great and it's the logical progression from an FZ6, but I haven't even gotten close to the limitations of my FZ6. NOT EVEN CLOSE! I'm at the 1500 mile mark on mine and now that the breakin is over apparently its ok to push her past 8k rpms. Whenever I look down and see
7k rpms I'm already 20+ mph over the speed limit! Why get more bike when I'm already breaking traffice laws at only half of the bikes rev range?

I think until you become bored with the FZ6 (is that possible?) there is no reason to pay extra for purchase price, insurance, and registration.

Keep in mind I've only been riding for 1.5 months and 2500 miles.

I've become bored with the FZ6 due to the following reasons:
1. Done with all the mods I wanted to do.
2. Never liked the front half fairing on the 04-06 ones.

It has enough power which is no complaints just not enough midrange. That is the reason I start looking at the CBR600RR and the triples. Z1000 is another contender too but idiots discontinued it and it is difficult to find a nice used one. Problem with these naked adaptations of their track siblings is that you always have to do some work on them to make them close to perfect. I am not pro for big mods like suspension swap. These components should come mated from factory. Swapping for other bikes suspension is not the perfect synchrony with the original design.

It depends on your company and where you live. I am with Liberty Mutual and in NH, they base the rate solely on engine size. It doesn't matter if it's sport, super, tourer, cruiser, etc...

Here's my coverage as told by my agent:

LM Agent said:
100/300/50, 1000 medical, 100/300 um 100comp ded. and 500 coll ded. annual premium =$234, for FZ1 with coverages same as above, with Eric as oper. = $424.

The FZ1 does appear to be more compact. The seat on it SUCKS!!! First thing to go in my book!

If you don't like the fairing, how about picking up someone's front end from the '07 or newer who is going to a naked version? Do a swap out? You'd have to fabricate for the instrument cluster but you'll have BOTH inners to cut and mold with to make it work. It would give you a whole new look!

I agree with you too. I had the '05 and loved it, but then the new fairing arrived in '07. At first, I thought it was a disappointment, but then it grew on me. When the '08 came out in Cobalt, I simply HAD to have one!!!

At that point, you can do a custom paint job too. :D

It is hard to find a blue 07 fairing and there was one complete setup I saw on ebay a few months back. But I couldnot get it as I didn't have the allocated funds. I am still looking though.

You could start picking off the parts from Ron Ayers as you have funds. I almost think the headlight buckets might be the same but am totally unsure.

Once you get all the parts, then assemble! Since the '06 and '07 are both Team Yamaha Blue, you'll not need painting too! Most of the parts are very cheap but they do add up. The main fairing is the big priced item.

I loved the FZ1, I almost bought it. The two reasons I did not were the dismal fuel economy, most people I talked to have a hard time breaking 35 mpg. The egros pretty much sucked. The seat height was a tad lower than the FZ6, but it just plain felt weird on the test ride. The FZ1 engine is MUCH smoother than the FZ6 engine though. In fact the buzzy engine was the only negative I could find on the FZ6. I solved that with some gloves and Grip Puppies. I really do think the FZ6 is close to a perfect do-it-all bike.

There was a blue FZ1 right next to the 6 I bought. Looks better in my opinion but it was easy for me cause I've gotten most of the "gotta have speed NOW" out of my system (I'm 37 next year).

I sat on the Kawi ninja 650 (great bike ESPECIALLY THE NEW ONE) and it didn't feel quite right. Sat on the FZ6...like a glove. Sat on the FZ1, didn't like it. I could change this / change that, etc. but it wasn't as good as the FZ6. So less comfort, less MPG (in addition to a smaller tank), higher insurance (State Farm goes by engine size, not how easy a bike will kill you...stupid as my sportster was more expensive than my triumph triple and VFR and the current bike LOL) and the seat didn't look like it would want luggage on it as easy as the 6.

With that said, i could totally buy one next year but the 6 is bad ass on its own merits. Looks, performance AND value, pretty cool.

I don't like the exhaust on the fz1, I think the exhaust alone makes it look less compact.

Actually it sounds great but you could easily replace it with a cheap clipon unlike our expensive underseat systems. Though I would love if they put a underseat exhaust for the FZ1 but that is not going to happen anytime soon. They are still persisting with that fugly canister.

I'm not a huge mod guy, so I hadn't really thought about it that way. That huge fart cannon on the FZ1 really does look stupid if you ask me.
